Water Ch. 108 - Happy Now

The drive is a long one when you have two toddlers strapped into car seats, and older siblings that are listening to music on their ipods.  Beth manages to keep Jake and Romeo entertained, but she can see that both boys are pretty tired.

The party last night had them up late and grandma was an early riser - so they're extra tired.  They get north of the city and start the long drive up I-87.  Beth notices that there is no longer mumbling and chatter from the backseat and she takes a peak.  Both little ones are sleeping and it looked like Jesse might be too, but he had sunglasses on.  She thinks about how wonderful the boys are and how much fun they're going to have at the new house.

The quiet is deafening.  She looks over at Jon and asks, "Honey, do you want me to drive?  You look tired."

He shakes his head no, and says, "I'm fine, babe. But thanks." And he tucks his hand between her thighs.  She grabs one finger and holds it.  She can't help but feel that something is bothering him.

She reaches over and tousles his hair a little bit and asks, "What's wrong?  You seem so distant.  Talk to me."

He's quite upset and very torn.  He knows he needs to talk to her, but now is not the time.  The kids are calm and resting, he just wants to enjoy the peace and quiet with her.  He glances at her, knowing that if she looks into his eyes for too long, she'll know he's lying, and says, "There is nothing wrong.  Will you stop worrying, please?"  He squeezes her thigh.

"Jon, I can tell you're not being truthful.  What's going on? What did Dorothea say?  What was so private?" she's getting a little pissed because she knows that whatever Dot had to say in private, was either a lie or flat out bullshit.

"We can talk about it later.  I don't want to do it with the kids around.  They don't need to hear it, okay?"

"That's fair, but will you tell me at least that you and I are good?  I haven't see you like this before and I want to be sure that you're not upset with me."  Beth can't imagine why he would be mad at her, mad enough to not talk to her.

"We are better than ever.  I have you two and those 4 in the back, life couldn't get any better.  Will you please stop with the worry already?  It's not good for you and the baby."  He takes her hand, and kisses all over it, reminding her, "We need to get something for that finger."  She puts her head back on the seat and smiles at him.

Jon is probably the sexiest when he drives.  The way he sits in the seat, the way he rests his hand on the wheel.  Add the aviator sunglasses on that great looking man and Beth can hardly contain herself.  She looks at the corner of his mouth, the tip of his nose, the corner of his eye and she immediately is turned on.  She watches the way he concentrates on driving, the little eye movements and just the intensity he has with everything. "Hey, can we break the new house in tonight?"  She whispers, unsure if the kids were asleep or awake.

"Do you really have to ask me that?  I'd say every room, if we were alone.  But yeah, we'll give it a shot."  He winks at her.

She laughs and says, "You're terrible."

The drive up state was a beautiful one, with lots to see and lots to not see.  Beth wasn't a very good passenger, but she did her best.  It's a control thing.  She wasn't able to take anything for her anxiety, so breathing exercises was all she had on her side right now.  She is able to relax enough to doze off.  Her night was long and her day is feeling just as long.

"In 500 feet turn left, destination will be on your right."  Startles Beth.  It was a voice that she wasn't familiar with and it scared her awake.

Patting her leg, Jon says, "Hey, we're here.  There it is."

Beth perks up in her seat and she can hear the kids in the backseat.  They are not as impressed as Beth is.  Her jaw drops when she sees the white 2-story house at her right.  She is smiles, ear to ear.  She looks at Jon and said, "This is our happy place."  She couldn't have pictured it to be more perfect than it already is.  The lawn is manicured, the neighborhood is gorgeous and she falls in love with the porch.

Jon parks in the driveway and they get out.  Beth grabs her little Romeo and Jon takes Jake.  Mom had given Jon a key, so he let everyone in.  Stephanie and Jesse took off to go see the whole house before anyone else could.

Beth and Jon both put the little ones down and they wandered off.  Jon took Beth's hand and said, "Let's go see what happy looks like, shall we?"  And they tour their new house.  As they walk through and take in the beauty that was saved in the old home, Jon tells Beth "All of this stuff is brand new.  Mom had it gutted and redone, and did the interior design.  She really hopes you like it.  She told me she's been working this day and night, from Jersey.  She found a contractor up here and he was relentless.  Had it done in 4 weeks.  The woodwork is original, she insisted  the place be lead paint free.  What do you think?"

Beth spins in a circle, in the middle of the and says, "Let's go check out our bedroom, and then I'll let you know."  She pokes him and says "Come on."  And she heads to the staircase.  Jon slowly follow and they make the journey up the stairs and Beth is even more blown away by what Mrs. B had done for the master bedroom and bathroom.  The bed is a sleigh bed, with matching night stands and dressers.  Beth has another walk in closet and the master bath is one might envision in heaven.  Jacuzzi tub, his and her sinks, a shower with a glass walls - it's amazing.  "Jon, she really didn't have to do this, it's beyond beautiful."  He loves to see her smile, he wishes she'd do it more.  They continue their tour and Beth is grateful that Ma cared enough about her to include her in this home.

Jon walks up behind Beth, as she looks out onto the side porch and says, "Do you see what just happened here?"

Beth turns around and says, "What are you taking about?"

He laughs, pokes her and says, "You just got another address."

She thinks for a minute and remembers a discussion about her moving to the east coast.  Were they going to stay in New Jersey, New York at her apartment or buy something.  She recalls telling Jon that they didn't need another address.

They are at their 'happy place'.

The Bongiovi's and Miss Adams spent the night setting up the house that they wanted it.  Switching bedrooms and moving furniture around, but no much.  Jon's mom took Beth's sense of style, with Jon's money and decorated the house almost perfect.  When they were finished putting their happy place in order, they all went into the nearest town and had dinner.  And as they sat at the diner booth, no one was recognized and that made the little house outside of Queensbury, NY the happiest place on earth.

After dinner, they did a little shopping for stuff that they would need to eat in the morning and when they were ready to call it a night, the whole family sat in the living room and watched a movie.  The kids were great and Beth thinks to herself, I could get used to this.  She looks at her soon to be family and is whole hearted thankful that they picked her to be a part of it.

The movie ended and Jon told the kids, "Bedtime."  And the 3 of oldest kids got up and went and got ready for bed.  Beth took Romeo up and helped him with his pajama's and brushing his teeth.  She can hear Jesse and Stephanie arguing about room to brush their teeth and that made her laugh.  She knows that kids that age aren't the best at taking care of their teeth, so maybe she is rubbing off on them?

Romeo is done and he climbs into his little race car bed and kissed Beth good night.  She hugs the young lad, and says "Sleep good little man, I'll see you in the morning."  She leaves the room, with a night light left on.  Checking in on the other 3, she was please to see Jesse and Jake in bed with the lights out already.  They all were tired.  She then went to peek in on Stephanie.  She was in bed reading a book.  Beth said, "Good night miss Stephanie, I'll see you in the morning."

"Good night Beth.  I'm so glad we're all here!  And thank you for loving my dad like you do."

"Stephanie, I do love your dad SO much."  She winks at Steph and leaves her to read.

Now she can't find her rockstar.  The house isn't all that big.  She found him, on the porch with a glass of wine and a cigarette.

"What are you doing?"  She asks, frankly a little pissed off.  "Smoking Jon.  And drinking?

"I'm sorry, I just felt like a cigarette and a glass of wine.  I haven't had any wine yet, I made a deal with you and I haven't broken it."

"Please tell me what the hell is going on.  What has you so distracted and on the verge of drinking?  What the fuck is Dorothea up to now?"

  1. The house sounds beautiful. Mama B did a great job decorating it.
No matter how Jon approaches this talk with Beth she is going to be pissed that Dorothea had her background with her family investigated.
If I were Dorothea I would consider laying low for the next fifty years.
