Water Ch. 135 - Are You Who You Are

Jon handles the phone calls, they ranged from Paul to Tammy, and everyone in between.

Dillon had even called, seeing that his sister was in the accident.  Jon gave everyone an update as to how they were, without giving out their secret.  Once he was done, he got cleaned up and had some work to do.  Checking on Beth, he seen she was finally asleep so her ran down to his office and grabbed some paperwork he needed to go over.

The house was empty, even the staff had gone home.  He's thinking that maybe Beth might be a little hungry, so he sets his paper work down and makes her a grilled cheese sandwich, her favorite when she isn't watching her weight or freaking out that she's fat.  With the sandwich, he sliced her some fruit and poured her some juice.  Placing it on a tray, he grabs his paperwork and heads back up stairs.  She restless, so he rousts her a little and gets her to agree to eat.  She smiles at him, "You remembered my comfort food.  Thanks babe!" She takes a bite and adds, "I didn't realize I was hungry." And she devours the food.  Jon is on the bed, next to her flipping through the mess at hand.

"How are you feeling babe?" He asks, rubbing her leg.  "How's the pain?"

She grabs his hand and kisses it, "I feel pretty good, considering.  Did you eat?"

"No, I'm not hungry. My nerves are about shot after today. I'll eat breakfast." He doesn't need her worrying about him, so he needs to divert the conversation. "The kids say hi. Stephanie is really worried about you. She wants you to call her when you feel up to it."

That makes Beth smile and she asks Jon, "It's 10:30 is that too late to call her?"

He thinks for a minute, "Maybe, since they're at moms.  Call her in the morning."

Pushing her tray away since she had finished eating, she asks her rock star, "What are you working on?" Leaning over to see.

"Oh, just some legal stuff for the football team and a contract to do a few shows. Just reading them over. They've been on my desk for days.  Nothing pressing."  Down playing the importance of both, adding in that he has a photo shoot coming up.

"A photo shoot, that sounds like fun.  What's it for?" She asks, cause she has no idea.

"Publicity, really.  The record company set it up. I just need to find a stylist." He explains, thinking maybe she might now someone. "When is it?"

He can't recall of the top of his head, "I'm not sure, it's down in my planner."  He sets the paperwork on his night stand next to him and asks her, "Ready to relax and just watch TV?"

Plopping back down on her pillow she says, "God yes, as long as you lay with me!"

"My day is done, I don't want to do anything except lay here with you and hold you in my arms."  He gets up and moves the tray to a table in the hallway and moves his paperwork.  Standing next to the bed, he takes off his shirt and drops his jeans on the floor. And he then climbs into bed to be exactly what he wanted to be for her - someone to lean on. And she does just that. Lays back on the headboard and he turns into a magnet. She instantly put her head on his shoulder and starts to run her fingers through his belly hair.

Jon grabs the remote and they settle on an old movie...Breakfast At Tiffany's.

"Hey. Can we talk for a minute? If you're not up for it, we can talk tomorrow." Jon asks Beth, hoping they can talk about it now.

"What's up?"

"Well, when you were coming to in the car, you called out for Brian, do you remember that?"

She sits up to look at him and simply says, "I'm sorry, Jon."

"Hey, that's nothing to apologize for honey.  You were knocked out cold and when you came too, you asked for him.  Do you remember any of that?" It hurts him to ask her about it, because it can open an old wound for her and possibly cause a new one for him.  Brian was a very big part of her life and lately he's been a big part of her thoughts. Jon knows he's dead and causes no threat to their relationship, so why was he feeling like he was competing with a dead guy?

Beth thinks to herself for a moment and tells Jon, "I don't recall anything. I'm so sorry. I don't know why I would call out to him like that, maybe it was a subconscious thought because I was in a crash?"

He sits up and they are now face to face on the bed, he reaches up and gently touches her cheek, "Are you sure you're okay?"

"Jon, I'm fine.  Why do you keep asking me that?" Beth is slowly recalling that she's pissed at him for lying about his meeting and that he had gone and seen Dot.  Add that on top of the spoon incident, and she suddenly feels a little angry.  But she stops herself, she doesn't want to upset herself and cause any more stress.

"You seem far away, and I don't like that. I can tell that you have something on your mind, what's up?" With his hands on her legs, he slides her around so her back or to him and he pulls her back to lay on him. She leans back and smiles.

She isn't going to get into it with him right now, they're in bed after a long day and she just wants to relax. So she does what's best, she holds off on THAT conversation. "I'm just tired and preoccupied. We have so much going on and going to go on that I just want to make sure we're on top of it all.  You want to add the nursery, I want to redo the bathroom, school starts in a couple of days, Dot is in the hospital and I start work on Monday. Just a lot going on."

"Stop worrying about that stuff.  I will take care of the remodels and Dorothea. All you need to focus on is getting better. Did you forget that you are on complete bed rest? You can't start work on Monday.  As for the kids, we have the best support system in place for them."

"Let's talk about all of this tomorrow.  Can we just relax and be two people that love one another and just want to spend time together. I'm sick of always having to 'deal' with something." She sighs, and lays back in her spot, pulling the covers up. She's still naked from the shower and has no reason or desire to put pajamas on.  Jon lays down too, spooning her he kisses on the back of her neck, giving her chills.  She wiggles because it tickles and he just pulls her tighter, kissing her more.

"One day, I promise, one day soon we will lead a normal life.  Just these few last hurdles and it should be smooth sailing for us."  She turns her head to look at him, and he sees that she's smiling. And he knows the smile enough to know that it means she knows he doesn't mean a word of it.

She grabs his hand and pulls it up to her chest and holds it. She has him as close as he can be, and she wants for nothing more right now.  "When do you think you'll go back on the road?"  And she asks, with his voice echoing, I'm done. I want off the road......

"On the road for what?" He's quite surprised by the question, it was pretty random.

"Come on Jon, you've been working on an album; even I know that and I don't pay attention."

"Richie and I have been playing around with a new sound and don't even have enough songs to make an album. Just bouncing ideas off of each other - no plans for a tour, you know that.  We just finished one."

"I've heard stories of you and your off time, I hear it doesn't last very long."  She  nudges him with her butt and kind of chuckles, she's learning him and he's learning her.

"Hey, watch it with that thing." He jokes, knowing that if he could make love to her right now, he would.  And he also knows that she has had one hell of a day, they both have and they both just need to rest. "One day, it will get you into trouble."

Beth reaches up and turns our the lamp that's on her bedside table and now they're watching Breakfast At Tiffany's in the dark.  They both love the movie, but it does little to distract them from the very odd conversations they seem to be having.

"Jon?" She asks quietly. On the off chance that he might be falling asleep or sleeping.

Squeezing her, he responds, "Yeah, babe?"

"Are we good?  Is something bothering you?" Beth couldn't think of a more straight to the point way of asking the question.  She's hoping that he says something like, I'm having trouble keeping things from you, but I went and seen Dorothea.  Those words do not come out of his mouth.

Up on one elbow, he's looking over her and says, "We're better than good, Beth.  Why do you ask?"

She can't take it anymore. She can't keep quiet about what she knows and how she feels.  She rolls over onto her back, with her breasts exposed.  Jon takes that as an invite to kiss her left one, and he does. Not in a sexual way, but in a way that tells Beth that he thinks she is beautiful.  She reaches for him and puts her arm on his shoulder, and with the courage she needs to ask him, she asks, "Why are you lying to me, Jon?"

He now sits up and asks, "Lying? What the hell are you talking about?

"You're meeting wasn't really with Ken. Do you want to tell me where you really where?"
