Water Ch. 145 - We Gotta Hold On

Both cars made it to the Hampton's, just a few minutes apart.  Beth and the kids got there first and were greeted by an armed guard, getting out of his SUV that was parked in the driveway.

"Stay here, I"ll be right back."  Says the driver to Beth and the kids.  No one knew who this guy was.  It was obvious that he was carrying a gun.  The driver got out and approached the guard, asking him, "Can I help you?"

The guard extends his hand, "I'm supposed to be meet Jon here, I take it he's not here yet?"

The driver was given strict instructions to stop for no one and to make sure that Beth and the kids were safe at all times.  "Who are you?" and the driver shows the guard his badge.

"I'm retired NYPD Captain Jim Parkes.  I've been hired by Mr. Bon Jovi to provide security for the family while they are out here."

"I'm sorry sir, we weren't informed that there would be anyone here. I'm Sargent Phillips of the NYPD, escorting the family out here.  Mr. Bon Jovi should be here any moment.  I'll take the family inside." and Phillips walks away.

Sgt. Phillips opened the door on Beth's side and told her, "That's your private security detail.  He's retired NYPD, let's get you and the kids in the house."  he stands back and the family files into the house, one by one.  Once they are inside, Cpt. Parkes comes in and introduces himself.  Beth welcomes him and introduces the children.  Cpt. Parkes did a walk through of the house and closed all curtains and blinds.  He was satisfied that the house was secure, giving the family permission to go on with their business.

All the kids headed to the family room and Stephanie found a kid friendly TV show.  It was late and they all were pretty tired, Beth could see that Romeo wouldn't last very long.  Beth stands in the kitchen at the island and tries to take it all in.  Here she is, back in this house and she hates it just as much now, as she had in the passed.  She stands there and thinks about all that has gone on since the last time she was at the house, and the first time she was there.  She loves him more now than she did back then, and back then wasn't very long ago.

Beth is startled by the sound of an opening door.  She quickly turned around and seen that it was Jon.  She was relieved, but her heart still raced.  Jon set the bags on the counter and gave her a hug, he could see that she needed one.  Over her shoulder, he seen Cpt. Parkes.

"Hey Jim.  Thanks for coming out." Jon said to his private security guard.  "Did you check the place out?"

Cpt. Parkes nodded as he told Jon, "Yep, checked it all out and covered all windows.  It's secure."  the captain and Jon have been friends for years.  He used to do security detail for Jon when they first started out, but as the band grew - the need for a single security guard didn't.  The band needed several guards, specially when they were home.

Jon releases Beth and he asks them, "Can I get you two anything?"

Both Beth and the Captain declined.  Jon grabbed a bottle of water and took a drink.  "I think this should only be a day or two Jim, what do you think?  Did you listen to the calls?"

"I did listen to them before I headed out.  One was determined to have come from Italy, so we wont worry about that one.  The other on was made by a New York number and they are trying to trace it.  Hopefully, we can find out who is doing this and take action."

Jon was surprised, "New York, really?  I didn't think either would come from this close."

Beth jumps in, "Will you be able to find out who it is, or is this something that we are just hoping for?"

Parkes tells Beth, "We might be able to.  If they made it from a house phone or a business line, we should be able to find out who it is.  If it was done on a pay phone, we will never know."

Jon can see that Beth doesn't like the odds that they may not find out, but he can't really do anymore right now.  Taking her out of the city was the most immediate thing he could think to do.

Jon motions to Jim, "Follow me, Jim.  I'll take you to your room.  Please help yourself to anything you may need or want."  And Jon leads Jim away, down the hall to the room where his parents stay when they visit.

"Thanks Jon.  Can you let the kids and Beth know that I will be up throughout the night doing checks.  I don't want to startle any of them if they get up in the middle of the night and see me walking around.  I'll be in and outside."

"Yeah, I'll explain it to them.  They'll be fine.  Is there anything you need me to do?" Jon asks.

"Nope, I'm good Jon.  Go be with your family."  Jim knows how important Jon's family is to him.  And he understands the anxiety and the stress that comes with this type of situation.

Jon smiles, pats his friend on the shoulder and replies, "Ok, let me know if you need anything."  And Jon leaves his friend, his safety alone in his room.  Jim makes the preparations that he needs and sits tight for a while, before he heads out and checks the perimeter.

Meanwhile, back in the kitchen Jon sees Beth just sitting at the counter, with a blank stare.  "Are you in there?"  She's pretty deep in thought.  "Beth?"

"Yeah, sorry."  She chuckles.  "I was daydreaming."

"Are you okay?"  he walks passed her and kisses her on the top of her head.

"I'm okay, let's go get the kids in bed."  she implies that she wants his help.  "I'm tired."

Jon is checking doors and windows, even though the captain had already done it.  He needed the piece of mind for himself.  "Let's do it."  He takes her hand and they do just that.

Beth and Jon worked together to get Jake and Romeo in bed.  Romeo was tired, so he was really whiny.  Beth was the one that could get him to calm down when he gets upset.  A small struggle and both little boys had freshly brushed teeth and pj's on.  They started to read a story, but neither made it to the end of the book.  Both boys were out like lights.

Back in the family room, Steph and Jesse were watching MTV.  Jon stopped at the step that led into the family room and said to both kids, "We're going to bed.  Don't stay up late guys.  Don't go outside and stay away from the windows and doors."

"We know dad."  Both kids said in unison.

"Good night kids, I'll see you in the morning."  Beth says to the eldest Bongiovi children.

They all said their good nights and Jon and Beth retired to the spare bedroom.  Jon knows that Beth wasn't going to sleep in the bed in the master bedroom, after all, Dot is the last to have slept there and they knew the sheets weren't fresh.  That wasn't even a discussion that they had to have.  Jon just knows how quirky Beth was and knew the best way to handle it.

Beth got ready for bed and pulled the blankets back and slid in between the sheets.  Jon was sitting in a chair, with his cell phone in hand.  "Come on Jon, get into bed with me.  Let's put this day behind us."  She pats the pillows next to her.

He looks up at her and says, "I will."

"What going on in that head of yours, babe?"

"I don't like being in this house." he tells her, and she is very surprised by that.

"What?  What do you mean?" she has to ask.

"I just don't like that we're here, and she's in the hospital.  I feel like we're intruding, kind of."  he knows that didn't come out right, but it was out there.

Beth knows that she needs to be just a delicate as he's trying to be. She understands what he's saying and she knows where it's coming from.  So she tells him,  "To me, it kind of feels like she's dead and we're here to take care of things, silly I know."

"That's how I feel.  I know it's crazy, but it's a weird feeling."  he stands up and sets his stuff on the dresser.  He goes into the bathroom, pisses and heads back toward the bed.  He took his shirt off, dropped it on the floor and unbuttoned his jeans.  Standing there, he stretches and rubs his head.  Beth can see that her honey bunny has no underwear on.  She can see the muscle cuts when his arms are above his head and she likes what she sees.

"Where are your underwear, sir?"  she asks him.

"On the floor, at your place.  I didn't put them on when I went to pick up the kids.  I thought I'd go back and we'd shower." he confesses.  He removes the jeans and slides into bed with Beth.

Reaching over, he pulls her closer to him.  Resting his head on his bent arm, he starts to rub her belly.  Beth turns her head and smiles at him.  "We missed you."

"I missed all of you.  How are you feeling?"

She needed to be honest with Jon, because he's supposed to be honest with her.  "I feel fine, physically.  Maybe a little tired.  But mentally and emotionally Jon, I am exhausted.  I don't know what more I can take."

Still rubbing her belly, making circles and hearts around her belly button, he asks her,  "You know I would change all of this, if I could?"

"I know, and I know it's not your fault - but I am about at my max level of crisis.  We have been through what a couple might go through in a 40 year relationship.  I don't handle this kind of stress well."

"It's going to get better, babe.  These are just little speed bumps on the road to happiness.  We will get through it."

  1. So the first call came from Italy and the second from New York. Hmm, wouldn't surprise me one bit if Dorothea isn't responsible for both death threats against Beth.
