Water Ch. 149 - Do We Got It Anymore?

Back in New York City, Beth had the car drop her off at her Manhattan apartment.  She quickly hugged and kissed the kids and stopped at Jon.  "I'll call you."  And then she kisses him goodbye and exits the car.  She watches the car pull away with her family inside and that broke her heart.  But she knew that she needed to get out while she could.  She can't handle the pressure, the stress and the bullshit that goes along with being Jon's 'mistress'.

Jon, looking at his children, wishes he could make all the madness go away and give them the normal life that they deserve.  But he was Jon Bon Jovi, how could he give them a normal life?

Stephanie can see that her dad is stressed and she doesn't like that, but she's old enough to know when to ask and when not to, but right now she didn't care.  She asked her dad one question, "Is she coming back dad?"  And the tears start to build in her eyes.

Jon gives Steph a half smile and tells her, "I don't know baby girl.  I have no idea."  Turning his head, he looks out the window.  If he keeps looking at Stephanie, her crying will make him cry.

"What happened dad?  Why did she leave?  We could hear her screaming at you."

Jon reaches over and puts his hand on his daughters and asks her, "Is it okay if we don't talk about it right now.  Maybe after your brothers go to bed?"  He kisses the side of her head.  Stephanie just rests her head on her dads shoulder.

Beth walks into her apartment and has never felt so alone.  Locking the door behind her, she heads to the bathroom and jumps in the shower.  She needed to wash the feeling of being in Dorothea's house off of her skin.  And try as she might have, she wasn't able to wash away the knowledge that Dot wanted her dead.

Beth didn't fear that Dorothea would kill her, she even second guesses if she would ever confront her after her visit to the hospital - none of that changed how she felt about all that has gone on.  Beth feels a huge responsibility for what has happened to her, the children and Dorothea.  If Beth would have left the married man alone, the kids would not be trying to deal with the fact that their mother was in a mental facility, dealing with suicidal thoughts and depression.  If Beth would have left the married man alone, the children wouldn't be living the nightmare of being children of divorce.  Beth should have left the married man alone.  But her heart wouldn't let her.

When she finished her shower, she threw on some yoga pants and a tshirt.  All the other clothes that she had in her apartment no longer fit her growing belly.  She snagged up the remote on the bedside table and turned the TV on.  It was on a local network and they played a clip of what's coming up on the 10:00 news.  "Dorothea Bongiovi could possibly face charges for death threats made towards Beth Adams, Jon Bon Jovi's mistress.  Sources tell us that she mad a death threat call after she learned that Jon and Beth were expecting twins.  The twins are expected in April."  Beth drops the remote on the bed and just stares at the TV.  "There is nothing private about my life anymore." she mumbles out loud.

Accepting that there isn't anything that she can do about it tonight, she headed to the kitchen to find something to eat.  There was very little to eat in her apartment, so she ordered from the deli down the block and went to go get it.

Jon gets the kids home to New Jersey, where they all belong.  Once they all get settled for the evening, with Romeo and Jake in bed - Jon takes some time and heads back to his office.  He has been away, mentally for too long and he needed to get shit right in his head.  He looked at the piles of mail, the boxes of merchandise that he needed to approve and music lyrics all over the place.  "How did I let it get this bad?" he says to himself, really clueless as to how it got this bad.  In the corner, he sees the painting that Tico had sent him and he thinks, 'I really should hang that up before T comes over."  Spinning around in his chair, he sees the photograph that Dorothea sent him of Beth and Romeo.  Picking up the frame he traces the outline of Beth's body and smiles when he gets to Romeo.  'He really loves her.' He thinks to himself, with a heavy heart.  Setting the frame back on the table, he notices out of the corner of his eye, a note.  He recognized the writing as Beth's.  Taking the note in his hand, he read it:
Jon,
There are not words that I can use to describe what you mean to me.  Your love has taken me places that I never dreamt I would reach.  Your touch gives me goosebumps and your smile melts my heart.  We have a long road ahead of us, but if you hold onto me - I promise, I'll hold onto you.
Until next time,
Beth

Sitting back in his chair, he holds the note and just stares out at the river.  It's dark out and all he can see is the lights of the houses across the river.  But they were enough to keep his focus.  He's lost, he doesn't know what is going to happen.  He doesn't know what he should do.  He knows that Beth has had to deal with alot in a very short amount of time, but what can he do about that?  It isn't anything that he could control.   He wasn't around when she as hurt in the Bahama's, but he got there as soon as he could.  He acted as fast as he could when she went unconscious on the yacht.  Both very out of his control.  He couldn't help the car accident and he told her to stay away from Dot, so why is he feeling responsible?  Why does he feel bad for the streak of bad luck that they are having?

After sitting there for what felt like an eternity, he came to the conclusion that he's chased her every time that she felt like running, he wasn't going to do it this time.  If she wants to go back to California, he won't try to stop her.  'She won't stay out there long. I just hope that she keeps in touch and let's me know how the babies are doing.'  And with a deep breathe, he gets up from the chair and tucks the note in his day planner.

Back out in the living room, Jon tells the kids that he's taking a shower and going to lay down.  They tell him goodnight and he heads up stairs.  Stephanie and Jesse start to talk, Jesse didn't like the way his dad was acting.

"What's going to happen now?"  Jesse asks Stephanie.  He has no idea what's been going on, the kids have no idea that their mother threatened Beth.  Jesse didn't even know that Stephanie went to see their mom and told her off.

"I don't know.  I think they need a break from each other.  Can you imagine being with dad all the time?"  Stephanie jokes with her brother.

"Dad seems sad."

Stephanie responds to her bigger, little brother, "He is.  He'll be okay."

The walk to the corner deli did Beth a lot of good.  It wasn't far, but it was NYC at night, and she loved it.  She loved to be in the city and it's even better when it's nighttime.  Her neighborhood is pretty quite at night, being in the financial district.  Few people on the street and the deli wasn't very busy, but she could hear the sounds and smell the smells.  She was taking it in, because she was going west in the morning.  After she went to the house and got her things.

Dinner under her arm, she walks the short walk back to her place.  When she has her plate ready and is in front of the TV, she grabs her phone to see if he had called.  He didn't.  He didn't call, text or email.  Beth is surprised by that, but not concerned.  'The one person he might hurt me with is in the hospital, plus he has the kids.'  That comforts Beth, even if it was only a little bit.  She doesn't wonder where he is or what he's doing.  She knows that he's at home and he has his children.  That warms her heart.

She eats her sandwich and chips, and spends the rest of the evening dodging phone calls because of the evening news.  Co workers called, Tammy called and even her brother called, but she didn't want to talk to anyone.  When she had enough, she found herself back in her bed, alone.  Like she was before she met Mr. Right.  She was okay with that.  She had other, more important things to think about.  She was going to be a mommy.  Shortly after her head hits the pillow, she falls asleep - ending her nightmare day.

After his shower, Jon went into their walk in closet to grab a tshirt and was slightly overwhelmed by the linger of Beth in the air.  He has always loved the way she smells.  The scent puts a little hitch in his giddy up for a second.  Grabbing his tshirt and pulling it on, he wonders 'Did she try to call while I was in the shower?'

He located his phone and panics for a second when he sees 27 missed calls.  Scrolling through who had all called, he was able to select the voice mails that he wanted to listen to.  The first one was his mother.  "You and Beth were just on the news.  Was it really Dorothea that called in that death threat?  Call me."  Jon was able to make sense of all the calls now.  He grabbed the remote and turned the TV on, and after a few minutes he was able to see the recap of the news story.  All he can do is shake his head, but he knows he needs to call his mom.

Finding her number, he pushes call.  After 3 rings he hears the comforting, "Hi son."

"Hi ma."

"Are you okay?  Where are you?'  his concerned mother asks.

"We're in Jersey.  Got home about an hour ago."

"Was it really Dorothea that called?  Please tell me it wasn't."

Jon sighs, "It was her.  NYPD traced the call to the hospital."

Mrs. B, Jon and Beth's biggest supporter, asks her son "How is Beth doing?  Let me talk to her."

Closing his eyes, and lowering his head, he has to tell her, "She's not here mom.  She's in New York."

"What the hell is she doing in New York?  Don't tell me she's working!"

With a fake chuckle Jon tells his mother, "She's at her apartment in New York.  I'm pretty sure she's going back to California tomorrow, ma.  She can't take the stress anymore.  She said she wants out."

"Jonny, tell me you're kidding.  She can't go to California with my grand babies."

"Mom, I wish I was kidding.  She said she can't take it anymore, and to be quite honest, I'm not chasing after her this time.  She always ducks and runs when it gets tough and I can't chase her anymore.  If she wants to go, she can go.  I only hope that she will keep me updated throughout the pregnancy." And he rests his head in his hand, defeated and deflated.

Mrs. B has no idea what to say.  She knows that her son's heart is breaking and she can't even begin to help him.  "How are the kids doing?  Do you want me to come over?"

Shaking his head he tells his mom, "No, ma.  The little ones are in bed and that's where I'm headed.  I just wanted to call you before I went to bed.  I didn't want you to worry."

"Will you call me tomorrow?"

"I promise, I will.  I love you, ma."

"I love you too son.  Call me if you need me, okay?"

"I will.  Bye."

"Goodbye honey."  And they hang up.  Jon sits on the edge of the bed, on Beth's side and really feels defeated.  He really feels like he has let himself and his kids down and he doesn't know what to do.  It takes a few minutes for him to realize that there isn't anything that he can do tonight.  Tomorrow brings another day.  He takes a little bit of comfort knowing that she's close and that she's probably sleeping, because tomorrow he's sure she'll be sleeping in California.

  1. Seriously Beth really needs to get over herself!
Jon is right he's the one doing the chasing, she needs to get a grip on things and stop feeling sorry for herself. Life constantly changes for everybody, not just her.
Beth will be in the spot light whether she likes it or not, think she should've thought about that a while ago!
    just an opinion

  2. Well I agree with Jon here he needs to sop chasing Beth is a bit self is here. But Jon has a lot on his plate an Beth needs to see that it isn't like he is doing these things on purpose she isn't the only victim here and it seems like Beth wants Jon to say how high when she says jump he needs to stick to his guns on this, this time.

  3. Good lord, someone needs to slap Beth and tell her to grow the hell up!
I don't blame Jon one bit for not running after her. He is right though. Everytime things get rough, Beth runs. She is not being fair to Jon, the kids, or the babies she is carrying.

  4. When did Beth run frkm anything? She could not help the accident or the coma. Beth is doing what she feels she has to do to protect the babies. Jon has never been asked to run after her. Don't get away from your story. Don't let others write your story.
