Water Ch. 60 - Beautiful World

Pulling up to the location of today's team building exercise, she  hits Tammy on the leg and says, "Hell no.  I'm not doing that."  Beth moves closer to the window to get a better look.  Her heart starts to be faster and she is feeling a little flushed.

This exercise has all the things that she's used to from team building exercise, and she isn't seeing how this is team building.  There is water, dirt, mud, brush and alot off space for this particular exercise.  Beth just shakes her head no walking up to her boss.  "Hey, William" she taps him on the arm with the back of her hand, "how is this team building?  Are you out of your damn mind?"  She's dead serious and he can see that.

William places his hand on Beth's shoulder and says, "Well, Beth the best way to explain this is - sometimes you're a one man team.  This is a competitive exercise, one person has to win."  he lets out a little chuckle.

She stands there and looks at him like he's an idiot.  "I better not get hurt, my boyfriend will come after you."  she chuckles, and walks over to where her co-workers are lined up to take part in this crazy exercise.  Beth isn't as eager as some are.  She just doesn't like the statistics for this exercise.  "Hey guys, make sure you're strapped in good, and double check the rigger.  Make sure you double check the rigger."  She can't stress that enough.

The young guys at her firm are all about this exercise.  Jack and Sam are in quite the hurry, they are ready to race to see who can get to the other side, first.  They get up on the platform and wait for the signal.  The signal is given and they both take off, to the other side of the canyon.  The zip line looks like it's miles long.  Sam wins and he's thrilled by it.  Beth can see the guys on the other side high fiving each other and showing there love for what they just did.  Two more co worker are up getting rigged, and ready to go.

Tammy walks over to Beth and asks her why she isn't a fan of the zip line.  Tammy didn't think she had ever done it before, Beth doesn't seem the type.  But Beth was honest with her assistant, she told her, "I'm not afraid of heights or anything like that, I just hear horror stories of these things.  Most of them are just kids that run them, and those kids don't have the proper training.  I mountain climb and equipment maintenance is important, and often this kind of equipment goes unchecked and is used too long.  I'm just cautious, that's all."

Tammy is nodding in agreement when she asks Beth, "Are you ready?  I'll race ya?'  She's all smiles, she would love to race her boss and kick her ass over the canyon.

Beth can see Tammy is nervous and wants to get her turn over, so she grabs her assistant by the wrist and says, "Come on, let's get to the other side so we can have a drink."  The women, being two of the few that work at Deloitte, L.A. walked up to the platform, passing several of their male co-workers and cut in line.  "We're next."  Beth lets the zip line operator know.  And he believed her.

It was time for Tammy and Beth to get into rigging.  Beth told Tammy what was going where and why.  She wanted her to know what and why, so she was armed with the proper information.  If you can't learn from an experience, what's the point?  They are rigged and ready to rock.  Beth reaches over and takes Tammy's cord and drags her behind her.  "I know you're scared so this is what I want you to do."  Beth is sounding a little motherly and she apologized about it, but she continued with, "walk right off the platform.  You don't have to run.  Like this."  Beth walked to the edge and demonstrated how she wanted Tammy to walk off the edge.

Tammy walks to the edge, keeping an eye on the distance that will be between her and the ground when she's zipping across the line.  She stops at the edge and Beth says, "Come on, we'll go together.  There's food and stuff on the other side.  Let's go."   Taking her assistants hand, she leads her right off the edge.  Once they started to zip, Beth had to let go.  Tammy was loving it, by the look on face.  They were approaching the other side and headed for the zip line attendants that are supposed to 'catch' them.

Tammy screams, "Beth what do I do? Beth..." and she follows that up with a scream.  She zips in over her landing platform and the guy standing there catches her and she is fine.  Beth zips to her platform too and she is stopped.  Both ladies are getting their rigging off and Tammy says to Beth, "I won, do you want to go again?"  She's giggly now from the left over adrenaline and she's still pretty psyched.

Beth looks at her and says, "How do you purpose we get over there?  I can bet you that Deloitte doesn't have anyone set to take us back over if we want." Beth steps off of her platform and instantly goes down.  The platform is at the top of a small hill, but not one that anyone would want to roll down.  And Beth just happens to fall and roll.  On the roll, she hits a few rocks and small trees, bumping various body parts along the way.

Tammy and the zip line attendants ran after her.  When they got to her, she was unresponsive and had some bleeding coming out of her right ear.  Tammy knelt down next to Beth and slightly shook her, "Beth!  Beth!  Come on Beth, wake up!  Beth!!"  Tammy looks at the zip line guys and says, "Go get some help."  One turns and runs off to get help.  The other one kneels down on the other side and tries to wake Beth too.  She was still unresponsive.  Each of them kept saying, "Come on, wake up."  "Beth!!  Wake up"

In a situation like this, a few minutes can feel like a lifetime.  "Beth, come on, wake up!"  Tammy is crying now.  Beth twitches a little bit and starts to open her eyes.

"What happened?" she asks Tammy, not remembering.

"You fell down a hill.  Are you okay?"  Tammy has tears of relief now.  She was so scared.  "Where do you hurt?"

Beth reaches up, puts her hand on her forehead and says, "My head hurts, help me sit up."  Brushing her hair off her face.  She tries to sit up thinking that might help with the headache, but the zip line attendant says, "Ma'am, help is on the way, please don't get up.  You need to stay laying down."  he puts his hand on her shoulder, assuring her that help is on the way and she'll be okay.

"Did the zip line break?" Beth asks Tammy.  She really doesn't remember what happened.

Tammy shook her head no, "You stepped off the platform and fell down, rolling down the hill.  Help is coming."  Tammy is scared.  She knows that blood coming out of the ear can be a bad thing.

"Help me sit up, please."  Beth is trying to sit on her own and she can't get her elbows up behind her self to sit.  "Tammy, help me sit up."

"Beth, were are you hurting?  Is it just your head?"

Beth thinks for a second, "No my ankle and legs hurt."  She lifts her head to look down her body to see if there is any blood.  Not seeing any she puts her head back down and waits for help.

Getting someone from where Beth fell injured to the hospital in town was a feat, even for the professionals that deal with that stuff everyday.  It took them almost an hour from when she fell to get her to the hospital in St. Bart's.  There were reporters there, many tourists since St. Barts is the ideal place for the rich and famous to vacation.  Thankfully, no one knew who she was.  She was able to go in under the radar, being Jon Bon Jovi's mistress anywhere else, that might be unheard of.  She was in and getting treated, with her trusty assistant and Mr. Deloitte at her side.

Many pictures and tests later, it is determined that Beth has a slight concussion, many bumps, many bruises, fractured ankle and a fracture leg.  Both will be casted later in the day when the swelling goes down.  She is admitted and gets to spend the night in the hospital.  She is given pain medication and monitored, due to the concussion.

William Deloitte liked Beth.  And with liking her comes worrying about her.  He stays with Tammy at Beth's bedside, out of concern for Beth.  He's not there because she was injured on the job, he is sincere with his worry.  It could have gone completely different and he's thankful that she will be okay, a long recovery - but she will be fine.

Later that afternoon they cast her leg and ankle.  She still has to stay the night.  Looking at her assistant that she trusts with everything and her boss that put this trip together, she tells them both to get out of there.  "Get out of here, you two.  There is no point in hanging around, I'm not going anywhere. Get."  she tells them and it's not open for debate.

"What if you have to go to the bathroom?" questions Tammy.  Being a valid question and not one Beth had thought of, Beth says, "They have nurses that can help me."

"What do you need me to do Beth?"  her boss asks, willing to do anything.

"Nothing, I'm good" pointing to the door, "now get out of here.  Both of you."

"Will you call me if you need anything?  The hotel is just down the road?" her assistant wants to be of assistance, in her time of need.

Beth looks around and asks where her Coach clutch is.  Tammy pulls it out of her purse and hands it to Beth.  "Damn it, my cell phone is in the room."  Looking at Deloitte like he was the devil.  Now she's pissed, she wanted her phone.

Tammy offers, "I can go get it and bring it to you, do you want me to do that?"

Beth thinks for a second, Jon has the day off........."No, I'm good.  Thanks though."  She reaches back and straightens the crooked pillow that's been driving her nuts for the last few minutes.  "Will you guys go now, I'm going to take a nap."

Tammy hates the thought of laving her, but it's what Beth wants.  Tammy has been with Beth through quite alot, and when it's compared to today's accident - today's accident is a walk in the park.  "Ok, please call me if you need me."  Tammy moves the room phone closer so Beth can reach it if she needs to.  Tammy kisses her forehead, "I'll see you in the morning, okay."

Beth nods, "Tomorrow, early.  I don't want to be in here all day."

"You going to be okay, kiddo?" asks Deloitte, scared of her response.  He can see that she is not too happy with him.  He feels terrible.  If her would have just done 'trust falls' like he was told, they wouldn't be here right now.

"GOODBYE!  Get out of here!" she grabs her head, because her own loudness hurts her head.
