Water Ch. 66 -

The sound of a telephone is the last thing you want to hear when you're taking the unexpected nap.  Beth had fallen asleep while Jon was kissing her boo boos, her pain medicine kicked in at just the right time.  And as opposed to waking her up and getting on the boat, he snuggled in next to her and fell asleep himself.  He laid there staring at her for quite a while before he gave into his own sleepiness and dozed off.

Ring, Ring............Ring, Ring was what they woke up to.  Beth's cell phone was on the nightstand, lighting up and vibrating while it rang.  Jon reached over and handed it to Beth, glancing at the caller ID.  He seen it was a New Jersey number, but that's all he could tell.  She took the phone, looked at the caller ID and shrugged her shoulders, telling Jon she had no idea who it was.  Answering it, "Hello."

"Let me talk to my husband." was all she heard, and Jon heard it too.  He rolled his eyes and extended his hand, so she could pass him the telephone.

Beth feeling great and rested, with Jon at her side said, "Hello Dorothea, how are you?"

Dorothea was in no mood for flakiness or condescending attitudes, telling Beth, "I need to talk to Jon, I heard he was with you.  If he's there, can I speak to him, please."

"Just a minute."  Beth tried.  She gave it effort, and Dorothea wasn't receptive, so screw it.  She handed Jon the phone, whispering, "I tried."

Jon takes the phone and sits up, he can tell this isn't a conversation that he can lay down for.  Plainly and with no affect he says, "Hello."  And that's all he needed to say to set Dot off.

"Are you watching TV?  Are you seeing what's being said?" she barks at Jon, and just keeps going.  "How can you keep doing this to me?"

"Whoa, whoa what the hell are you talking about?" Jon has no idea what she's barking about.  The TV?  He can't remember the last time that he watched TV.  It was probably in Foxboro with Stephanie.  "Calm down, tell me what you're talking about."  Getting up off the bed, he starts to pace a little bit.

"There are pictures of you two in the Bahama's.  When were you in the Bahama's, Jon?"  Dorothea was upset and Jon could hear she was crying.  "What happened to her?  The pictures show she has a broken leg."  Jon is recalling the paparazzi from earlier today.  Fuck! he thinks to himself.

"Dorothea, I'm in the Bahama's right now, and yes, Beth has a broken leg.  Didn't you get the message?"  he asks her, assuming the message would have been relayed to her when the band got back to town, but apparently that didn't happen.  She is beyond pissed.

Dot cannot believe what she's hearing.  "You're in the Bahama's right now??"  He can hear that the hurt is quickly turning to anger.  Not wanting Beth to overhear it, he gets up and takes the conversation out to the patio.  Beth sits up, a little puzzled by that, but she respects it.

"I'm in the St. Bart's right now, yes - we are leaving today to go to L.A.  I'll be back the beginning of the week.  And what am I doing to you?"  he's on the verge of just hanging up on her.  He doesn't feel that he should have to explain anything to her anymore, but out of respect he does.  And when she starts making it about her, that's where he really gets pissed.

Dorothea begins to calm down, taking a deep breath she asks, "Why can't you keep this hidden a little longer?  I don't like seeing you on TV just yet, Jon."

"Dot, I came down here under the cloak of darkness.  No one knew I was here, but they knew Beth was here because of her accident.  We have PUT nothing out in the public.  What were the pictures of?  What are they saying?" she has peaked his curiosity, and now he wonders what everyone is saying.

"It's picture of you and her on a patio, kissing.  There's one that shows she's angry with you, and the black eyes don't help.  What happened to her?  Is she okay?"  Dorothea really doesn't care how any of this might make Jon look and she really doesn't care how Beth is.

"She had an accident, she'll be okay.  I have only been here since yesterday.  I had a show in Atlanta, remember?" Dorothea often forgets Jon's schedule, and typically doesn't care what he's doing but this is different somehow.

"What do you expect me to tell the kids and our family?" She asks Jon.

He is upset now, "Why do you have to tell anyone anything? It's not any one's concern."

"Well I'm sure your parents with have questions if they see the pictures and so will the kids. Since no one can call you." She retorts with a whole lot of cockiness, sending Jon over the edge.

"Tell the kids I love them and I'll see them when I get back. If they have questions, they can call me on Beth's phone. Goodbye Dorothea." And he hands up on her. Done with explaining anything to her.

Walking back inside he sees Beth has gotten up. She's in the common area of the suite, talking with Tammy and her boss. Jon can hear Beth telling Tammy about Jon coming in to save her day and that they are leaving on that big yacht 'parked' out there in the ocean. Tammy had to go look at it. She was in awe and she admitted, a little jealous. Jon walks up to Tammy and says, "One day, your night in shining armor will sail in to save you." He chuckles at himself, thinking that's exactly what he did, kind of.

Beth and her boss discuss her work schedule.  William tells her that she's good to stay off from work until he cast comes off, at the earliest.  He would really like st see her take more time off.  If anyone NEEDS her. they will call her, but only if she's needed.  Beth tells her boss that she will come back when she's ready, she'd really like to get her office moved.

William and Tammy leave and Jon and Beth get ready to get on the boat.  Beth is anxious to see the beauty that waiting for her out there on the sea and she's wanting her trip home to begin.

Packing up their bags, they head down to the doc where a local is waiting for them to take them out to the yacht.  They hand down their bags and step into the little speed boat that will taking them to their floating vacation.  Jon and Beth sit there, hand in hand and they so see the paparazzi snapping pics.  Jon gives them all the New Jersey salute and they make their way to the yacht.  Climbing aboard was a little more difficult for Beth than she thought, but she managed.  They were safely on board the yacht and on their way to L.A.

Jon was happy that he had her alone, and she was more than happy to be his hostage,
