Water Ch. 73 - Superman Tonight

When they arrived to the hospital in San Diego, Beth was taken immediately to the ICU ward. They check her in and they add Jon as her emergency contact. When he’s done with that, he goes into ICU with her and ask the doctor what the next step was. He tells Jon that they need to run some tests and take some pictures and they should know more in a little while.

Jon was with Beth and wasn’t going to leave until he knows what’s wrong with her. He’s gently rubbing her face and talking to her, with the hopes that she wake up soon. He has no idea what to do, other than to let her know that he’s there. Stroking her face, he leans over and repeatedly kisses her face, telling her “Come on baby, I just found you, I can’t lose you.” And he kisses her some more. No response.

A little while later, a hospital employee walked in and said, “Hello, my name is Missy, I’ll be taking your wife down to get a cat scan and an MRI. Will you be going down with us?” Jon just looks at her and just shakes his head yes. He wasn’t going to bother with correcting her, that detail was unimportant right now.

Missy unlocks Beth's bed and starts to take her downstairs to to get her tests done when it finally hits Missy. She looks at the rockstar that’s following closely behind her and says, “Aren’t you Jon Bon Jovi?” Again, Jon just looks at her and shakes his head yes. He wasn’t going to make a big deal out of it. The girl had a job to do and he didn’t want to get into the whole oh my God, I love you nonsense. Beth needed her test and she needed it now.

Missy gets Beth down to imaging and Jon waits in the waiting room. As soon as Beth is taken back, a woman approaches him with a laptop on a cart and introduces herself. Jon knows what she wants and as soon as she gets the words; “Hi. I’m Jennifer. I work in patient registration and I need to get a few details from you.”

Jon wiggles and sits up in his chair and says, “What do you need?”  Knowing that her job was to get the billing information.  They have just admitted a women with an unknown diagnosis and it was going to get expensive.

“Can you provide any insurance information for Miss Adams? We have nothing on file for her.” she quietly says so that no one will over hear this information.

Jon gets out of his chair and looks Jennifer in the eye and calmly says, “I don’t know anything about her health insurance but don’t worry about it. I will pay cash for everything. Ok?”

“Okay, are you aware of what these procedures may cost?” Jennifer has no idea who she is talking to. And Jon doesn’t want to explain it or introduce himself.

“I am aware and I will pay cash.” And he walks away. He moved closer to the door that Beth had been taken through. He wasn’t able to see her through the window that was in the middle of the door. Jennifer stood there for a few minutes, expecting him to say something else. He turns and sees her there and asks, “Did you need something else?” With a little bit of anger in his voice.

Jennifer was shocked by his tone and asked him, “May I have your name to put you as her responsible party? For my records. I need to know where to send the bills, sir.” She was polite, however, she didn’t believe he had the means to pay the bill, so she wanted to get as much information as she could before she walked away.

“My name” he says quietly, but firmly, “is Jon Bon Jovi.” As soon as he got those three words out of his mouth, he could see the light bulb go on. He thought to himself, good now she’ll leave me alone.

“I will list you as responsible party, may I have your address?” she’s just trying to do her job. She wasn’t trying to irritate him or piss him off.

He is getting irritated and she is pissing him off now. The woman that he loves is in a medically critical state and the hospital is concerned about getting paid, he understands that. “I will give all that information when I check her out. Could you please leave me alone now?” He’s serious now, he wants to be left alone. He doesn’t want to be bothered by the technical stuff right now.

Jennifer honors his request and leaves him be.  He is left there all alone and has nothing but his thoughts to keep him occupied.  He is thinking the worst, praying for the best and is dying to know how she's doing.

He starts to pace and after a few minutes, Missy appears again and says, "Relax, Mr. Bon Jovi.  Your wife will be just fine.  She had a small blood clot break loose and lodged in the parietal lobe of her brain, causing the unconsciousness and the lack of pain response.  We have given her a blood thinner, to prevent another one and we think that the treatment will move the one that's lodged and she will recover.  There was no permanent damage to her brain and recovery will be 100%.  At first she may have slight memory loss, but that will pass as long as you refresh her of her memories.  You acted fast and the Coast Guard did a great job getting her here in time.  Strokes can be really bad, and better for lack of a better word.  If you're going to have a stroke, where hers is is the best place.  She is lucky that it didn't make it to her heart or lung.  The story could be very different."  Missy walks up to Jon, rubs his shoulder and says, "She's very lucky with every one's fast thinking and even faster action.  You can go see her now.  She should wake up soon.  Go, go be with her."

Confused, relieved and still scared he told Missy, "Thank you for your help regarding this, I know you have other patients to tend to, but I am forever grateful for your follow through."  he leans in to shake Missy's hand.

Jon went back with Beth to her room, once Missy took her back.  Jon pipes up and says, "How long will she have to stay here?  I don't know what I need to do for her when I take her home.  Will she need round the clock care?"

"I'd like to keep her over night and give her a once over before I release her.  She should be fine.  Go sit with her.  She might want you there when she wakes up."  Missy reminds Jon.  He shakes his head in agreement and went and sat next to his baby's bed.

Holding her hand, resting his head on them, he can feel the tears coming.  He doesn't want her to see him cry, but he thought what the hell?  She scared the crap out of me, I can cry, and he did.  His  tears come like he never thought that they would, but they showed him that she was the one for him.  Laying there with his head on their hands, he thanks God.  "God thank you for this second chance of happiness.  I am grateful that you didn't take her from me."

About an hour later, he was on the verge of falling asleep, with his head on their hands.  His deep sleep wasn't far away, and when he finally dozed - he dozed deep.  He wanted to be and stay as close to her as possible.  So the chair that is across the room, wasn't an option. The hum of the air system sent him to sleep, plus it's pretty quiet in ICU.

He was startled awake by someone touching his hair and face.  Sitting up and looking around, he sees that Beth is waking up.  "Hey baby, where have you been?  How do you feel?  Do you want me to get your a nurse or a doctor?"  He has a smile on his face from ear to ear.  He stands up, while still holding her hand - he kisses her on the lips and said, "Welcome back babe."  Kisses her again.

"What the hell happened? she asked him, remembering nothing.

  1. I felt every drop of pain Jon was going through. Thank god she will be okay. Curious if she will have any memory loss concerning her relationship with Jon.

    Loved it!
