Water Ch. 72 - Love Me Back To Life

The two of them are sitting there laughing over the possibility of a long distance relationship, both knowing that one was going to have to relocate if this was going to work.  Neither one of them wanted to be without one another, and neither one of them wanted to concede and move.  And at this moment, they weren't overly worried about it.  They were on vacation.

Beth gets up to head to the restroom and as she's walking away, she can hear Jon's cell phone ringing.  She can only imagine who it was.  Her first thought is the obvious one; Dorothea.  She didn't let that stop her.  She went about her business and returned back to her lounge chair,, next to her rock star.  By this time, he's off the telephone and asks her, "Are you getting hungry yet?  I can have the cook whip us up something."

Beth thinks for a minute, looking at the man to her right with his shorts and ball cap on.  "Yeah, maybe something light.  I'm really not that hungry.  I'd love some lemonade, though." And she continues, "What sounds good to you?"

"Oh, I don't know.  I could have him throw together some fruit and cheeses, with maybe some crackers.  That's light enough, isn't it?" he asks.  He wants her to relax and enjoy this ride home, because he knows that their time together is coming to an end.  Too soon.

"That sounds really good.  I think fruit and cheese is a great idea.  We can eat light now and have a romantic dinner on the top deck later tonight."  She reaches over and pats him on the leg, as if to say 'Good idea, go let the chef know.'

Jon went and told the chef that they were getting a little hungry and asked if he could whip up something light and easy. The chef naturally said, "Not a problem. Where will you be eating, sir?"

Jon said, "I'm going to take her on a tour of the place and then I guess we'll eat on the pool deck. Can you make some lemonade, fresh?"

"Oh yes, of course. Enjoy your tour and I'll see you when I bring your brunch up." The chef says and then adds, "Sir, I'm pretty sure there is a wheelchair on board, would you like me to check?"

Laughing, Jon says, "Oh no, if we presented that as an option to her, we both would be swimming for shore. Thanks though." And he turns and walks away.

Arriving back where he left his baking baby, he says, "Come on, I'm going to give you a tour of this place. You will be amazed at what's on here." She doesn't respond. He walks over to her and pokes her shoulder, "Beth, hey wake up sleepy." Nothing, now he's getting scared. Removing her sunglasses from her face he's able to see her eyes are closed. Prying her eyelid open he sees that her pupil is reactive to light. "Beth, wake up. Hey come on, it's not funny anymore." He shakes her and the only reaction he gets his her head moving back and forth from each shake. "Baby, come on, wake up! Beth!!" He runs inside and picks up the house phone.

The captain answers. "Captain here, how can I help you?" He asks in his best Captain tone.

"Beth is unresponsive, call for help." He screams and slams down the phone, running back to Beth's side. She's still unresponsive, but she's breathing. Jon has no idea what to do.  His heart is racing and he suddenly feels like he could vomit.

Moments later a new face appears and introduces himself as the ships on board medical director, Kevin Lucas P.A (Physician's Assistant) and gets between Jon and Beth. Jon is relieved to see someone that may help, but is just as sacred.

Kevin Lucas P.A. runs over her vitals quickly and ask Jon, "What happened to her? Why does she have the cast and black eyes?"

"What!? What's wrong with her?" Jon isn't all about giving him a history lesson, he wants her helped and right now.

"Mr. Bon Jovi how did she sustain these injuries? It's important." The P.A. tells Jon.

"She fell off a zip line platform and rolled down a hill in St. Bart's. Why?" Jon tells him what happened, in a nutshell.

"Did you see it? We're you there?"

"No, I heard about it though. What do you need to know?"

"Do you know if she blacked out or had an inter cranial bleed? Even if it was just small?"

"Yes to both, why?" Jon isn't a patient man when it comes to stuff like this. In his mind, fix her and fix her now.

Not wanting to sound anxious or like this could be serious, he tells Jon, "Please have the Captain radio the Coast Guard for assistance. He needs to tell them unresponsive woman, vitals stable. They can get someone here quicker that we can boat to shore."

Without hesitation, Jon turns and runs back up to the bridge and tells the Captain exactly as he was told. The Captain picks up the phone and says, Mayday, Mayday!" Now Jon is scared. He knows that Mayday isn't a good thing.

The Coast Guard responds, "Vessel name and location. Over."

The Captain gives their vessel name and location, stating, "We have an unresponsive female, vitals strong. No know drugs or ETOH. Over"

"We are 10 minutes out, can you have her packaged for pick up please. We will drop the basket. Over"

All the captain says in return is, "10-4. Over.

Jon takes off and heads back to the P.A and tells him that she needs to be packaged and they are 10 minutes out.

Lucas continued to try to get a reaction out of Beth; trying the sternum rub and even that doesn't wake Beth up. The sternum rub is taking a fist and running it hard over the sternum, checking the response to pain.  Beth was unresponsive to even pain.

By this time, other staff members came to help Lucas with the basket and blankets. Beth at this point is just unresponsive, yet breathing on her own. Jon is beside himself, feeling helpless and terrified. He watches as they package Beth for flight and tells them all, he IS going with her.

Lucas asks Jon if he could get her identification and any pertinent information that she might have in her belongings. Jon runs into the state room and grabs her purse.

Beth is packaged and they can hear the Coast Guard chopper getting close. The staff and Lucas move the basket into position and wait for the Coast Guard to come down and hook her up. Lucas gives his diagnosis and the treatment he had given her to the Coast Guard.  The Coast Guard said they had had it from there. They hook her up
and send the basket back down for Jon.

The crew on board took the basket and helped Jon get in and get secured for the lift into the Coast Guard chopper.

Once Jon is in the helicopter, they supply him with a headset and he puts it on.  Jon is very familiar with headsets in a helicopter, putting his on and getting it set to where her needs it, he asks the pilot "How far out are we and where are you taking her?
