Water Ch. 206 - We'll Make It, I Swear

"Yes, we're home." Jon says into the phone.  Beth had just woken up and she's still kind of groggy. She can hear Jon and she wonders who he's talking to. "I'll let the staff know you're coming.  Thank you."  And Jon ends his phone call.

"Who was that?" Beth mumbles, with the worst case of dry mouth ever.  "Who's coming over?"  Jon gets up off the couch and walks over to his new 'bride' as she lay in bed, just as sick as she was two days ago.  In fact, Jon thinks that she is worse.

He sits next to her and kisses her cheek.  "That was the doc, he'll be here in about an hour."

"Jon, I don't need a doctor.  It's just the flu." And she coughs, as she's gagging on the film that forms in your mouth when you sleep with your mouth open.  "Can you get me a little bit of water, please?"

There wasn't a second of hesitation.  He sprung to his feet and ran into the bathroom and got her a fresh glass of water.  Back at her bedside, he helps her sit up and holds the glass as she takes a sip.  "Thank you."  She lays back down and pulls the blankets back up to her chin.

"Can I get you anything else?  Babe, you need something in your stomach."

"No, no food yet.  I haven't even kept the water down, but I'm so thirsty." she admits that she's still sick but she doesn't think that she's worse.  She thinks it's a virus that has found a good host and doesn't want to leave.

"How about some ice chips?"  He reaches up and feels her forehead, "You still have a fever."

"Its just the flu, Jon." now she's getting irritated, she knows what's wrong with her, she's had the flu before.

Jon knows that he needs to be a little firmer with her, a little more like he is in charge "I think you have something other than the flu.  I've never known of the flu to hang on this strong, for this long.  If the doctor agrees with you, I'll leave you be, until then - you are my little patient and I will take care of you."

Expelling air from her lungs forcefully, she states, "A doctor isn't necessary."

"He's on his way.  Do you want some ice chips or do you want to try some broth? Maria says that a clear liquid is okay.  Anything?" he pleads with her.

She knows he means well, but she reminds him "I haven't kept anything down for 3 days babe.  My stomach really isn't ready.  Where are the kids?  It's too quiet"

"They went to dinner with Matt.  He heard you were still sick and wanted to help out a little."

"So, they are having dinner with your parents?" she smiles.

Jon laughs, "You know it." Jon gets up and closes the drapes a little, he could see that the light was bothering Beth a little bit.

When she sees him at the window she asks him, "Will you crack a window a little bit?  Some fresh air in here would be great."

He cracks the window and tells her, "It's chilly out, if you get cold, tell me."

"It smells like death in here, or is that just my breath?" she was serious when she asked him.

He chuckles at her, "It could be both, but I think you're smelling your breath.  Want help brushing your teeth?"

"That sounds good, but we need to do it quick, I'll freeze to death." she laughs too.

He helps her out of bed and  into the bathroom.  She sits on the vanity stool while Jon gets her toothbrush ready with paste.  He hands it to her and she starts to brush her teeth.  The toothbrush hit he gag reflex and she gagged.  Jon almost paniced.  Beth held up a hand and continued brushing her teeth.  When she was finished and it was time to brush her tongue, she went to the sink.  Brushing all the parts around the gag reflex made her feel so much better.  Quickly, she ran the brush over the bad part and she was done.  She rinsed her mouth and took a small sip of water.  It was so cold, it felt and tasted so good to her, she wanted to guzzle it, but she knew better.

Jon helped her back into bed and made sure she was comfortable.  "I'm going to let Maria know that the doctor is coming and open the gate.  Are you going to be okay for a few minutes?"

"Honey, I'll be okay for many minutes.  GO eat, go do whatever, you don't need to be in here 24/7.  I'll be okay." she kind of snaps at him and he can now see that he's a little over bearing.

"I can take a hint." sadly he looks around and makes sure that she has everything in reach that she may need.  She has the remote, that controls everything in the bedroom; even the intercom.  She has water and the room is airing out.  "Holler at me if you need me, FOR ANYTHING!"

"Yes, dear.  Now GO!" she points to the door.  Jon kisses her and hangs his head a little low while going downstairs to talk with Maria.  Beth takes another nap.  She can hardly keep her eyes open anymore and she is secretly concerned that it might be something other than the flu.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This time she is awoke by the sound of an unfamiliar voice that startles her.  She can hear Jon's voice too, as she slowly opens her eyes and sees that it's the family doctor.  Beth is on her side of the bed, still covered head to toe in blankets.  Her spot is soaked and she is shivering almost hard enough to hurt her teeth.  She is sick.  Jon takes one look at her and tells the doctor that she didn't look that bad an hour ago.
The doctor takes her blood pressure and other vital signs and runs through a series of question that Jon has to answer because Beth had already fallen back asleep.  Jon tells the doctor about the surgery to remove the twins, the car accident and the accident in the Bahamas', explaining her brain bleed.  The doctor asked some more questions based on the information that Jon had just given him.
"I want to admit her for blood work.  I can see that she is severely dehydrated and pallor, not very good at all.  Her vitals are steady, but they are weak and that's expected in severe cases of dehydration.   How do you want to transport her Jon?"
Jon gets a little nervous, but he knows that he has to do it.  She needs medical care in a medical facility. "How do you recommend I get her there?"
"In an ambulance, she will get the IV right away, so that's a jump start on her treatment.  That's what I think you should do." the doctor explains to Jon.
Jon nods, "Can you get one here without lights and sirens?"
"Of course." The doctor responds and makes one phone call.  When he's done, he asks Jon, "How are her menstrual cycles?"
"Here and there since the surgery, but the OB said it could take a while before they even out."
"Is she on anything like birth control?"
"No."
The doctor stands and shakes Jon's hand.  "I'll meet you at the hospital, okay."
"Is she going to be okay?'
"She will be fine, but she needs some help right now.  The ambulance should be here shortly and like I said, I'll see you there."
Jon walked the doctor downstairs and told him thank you.  Standing in the door, they could hear sirens in the distance, getting closer.  "Shit."  Jon says goodbye and runs in the house.  Finding Maria, he asks her, "Please call my mom and let her know that Beth is going to the hospital for some IV's and that it's going to hit the news." And he disappeared from the kitchen.
He opens the front door, to let the medics in all the while chewing their ass for the lights and sirens.  They played stupid, but both of them were pretty geeked to be in Jon Bon Jovi's house.  Looking back out the door, Jon seen at least 2 news vans as the call went out over the wire.  He couldn't worry about that yet.
The medics have her loaded on the cot, IV started and they are ready to leave.  Beth wakes up, a little but has no idea that she's even being taken out of the house on a stretcher.  They load her in and go to the Monmouth hospital with full lights and sirens.  The press that was outside were snapping pictures as fast as their shutter would move.
Beth is admitted and the tests are started.  Jon is running on adrenaline kicking himself in the ass for not listening to her 2 days ago, when she said she would be just fine.  He thinks to himself, She Looks Dead.  He paces the hallway while they get her situated in a room.  As soon as he's able, he's at her side holding her hand, rubbing it with the other and praying to anyone that will listen to make her be alright.  He is in a never ending case of deja vu!!!
