Water Ch.207 - I Painted You A Lifetime

He said forever and he swore he would never let her down.  Will she see it that way when she wakes up and sees that she's back in a hospital?  He didn't care, she's been sick for far too long and she's the only one in the house that's been sick at all.  He feels that something is wrong.

Sitting next to her in a chair, he rests his head on the side of the bed and closes his eyes for just a second.  He just needed a minute, a moment to be with his thoughts.  Just a moment.

He woke up when he felt something touch his head.  Startled, he sits up and looks at Beth, ignoring the pain he felt in his neck from sleeping funny.  He sees that she is awake, her head moving back and forth, side to side.  "Babe, I'm here."  He leans toward her and kisses her cheek.

"Where am I?" she whimpers.

Standing up he tells her "You're at the hospital."  He looks at his watch, and he thinks to himself I slept for five hours?  "The doctor wanted you to come in and get fluids because you were very dehydrated.  You fell asleep when he was talking to you."

"How long have I been here?" she yawns and stretches a little bit.

He sits next to her on the edge of the bed and tells her, "Only for a few hours.  How are you feeling?"

She doesn't know if she feels better or worse, or if she is just doing the same.  "I'm hungry."

"That's a good sign.  Do you want me to get the doctor?"

She shakes her head no, "Take me home, I want to go home."

He can't help but smile at her.  Here she is laying in a hospital bed, hooked to an IV and a cardiac monitor, yet she still thinks that she's in charge.  "You're not ready to go home yet."

"I am too."  She sits up a little straighter.  "I don't need to be here, it's just the flu."

Now he's going to take the wheel and drive the conversation to where it needs to go, "You are the only one that's been sick and you aren't getting any better - you're staying here until the doctor says you can go home."

"What are they doing other than IV fluids?" she barks at him, getting upset that she isn't getting her way.

"They took some blood when you first came in and they are monitoring your heart, just relax." giving her a little bit of the stink eye.  "The doc will be in shortly, I'm sure.  Just rest."

"Jon, I want to go home."

"Damn it Beth, knock it off.  You're not going home until the doctor tells me that I can take you home." he snaps back at her, knowing that he is not giving in and he isn't going to rush this.  She's staying put until the doctor tells him otherwise.

"Will you help me to the bathroom?  Maybe find a toothbrush?" she mumbles to him, accepting the fact that she is staying put until the doc lets her go.  She knows well enough, to know that Jon won't rescue her from the place that he sent her to.

He helps her to the side of the bed and ties the ties on the back of her, ever so sexy, hospital nightgown.  They took her pajamas off of her so that she could be hooked to what she needed to be hooked to.  The hospital gowns are perfect for that.

As she stands, she's a little light headed and Jon catches her, feeling her go slightly limp.  "You okay?" he asks.

"Yeah, just a little light headed." she admits and tries to regain her balance.  Struggling, she tells him, "I'm pretty tired."  He helps her into the bathroom.

Once she is safe on the toilet, Jon says, "I'll go get your toothbrush.  I'll be right back." and he leaves to go get her travel bag from the closet.  As he's rummaging through her travel bag, looking for her travel toothbrush and paste, the doctor knocks on the door.  Startled, Jon turns and says, "Come in."

The door opens and in walks the doctor with another person in a white coat.  "Hi Jon.  I see she's feeling better?"  The doctor asks, referring to Beth not being in bed.

"Hi.  She's using the bathroom and brushing her teeth, did the blood work come back yet?" Jon replies, very curious to find out what is wrong with his partner.

"Jon, this is Dr. Jameson.  He's the head OB/GYN here at the hospital."  Jon puts Beth's things on the bed and swallows hard.  The lump in his throat, that he's had for days, is now more pronounced and it's starting to hurt.  He extends his hand and shakes hands with Dr. Jameson.

Jon is able to get out, "Nice to meet you."  Looking at the doctor very confused he follows with,  "An obstetrician/gynecologist?"

Dr. Jameson takes this as his time to talk, "Can we get Miss Adams out here?  I want to have this discussion with her present."

"Of course."  Nervously, Jon wipes his hands on his pants and goes to the bathroom to get her.

Jon and Beth are sitting on her bed, his arm around her and her hand on his leg.  After the initial introductions, Dr. Jameson begins to tell them, "Miss Adams, your blood work came back grossly contaminated with white blood cells, which tells us that you have infection in your body somewhere, and since we see no wounds or injuries on you - we can only assume that its from the surgery you recently had in California.  Have you had any cramping or uterine pain?"

Beth shakes her head no.

"What about bleeding or clotting?"

"I have had very sporadic periods, mild to no cramping.  They aren't back to normal yet."

Dr. Jameson continues the questions, "Have you had any abdominal pain at all?  What about during sex?"

Shaking her head no, again, she tells him, "No, nothing.  Sex is fine.  What do you think is going on?"

"Any pain with or after orgasm?" he asks.

"No."

Jon jumps in here and asks, without sounding like the doctor had another option, "What do you think is going on?"

"I think she has an infection from her prior surgery.  I would like to do an examination to verify." Dr. Jameson tells them.

Beth look at Jon with her thoughts all over the place.  Tired and not feeling very well, she lays back in her bed and closes her eyes.  Jon takes the covers and pulls them up and makes sure that she's warm enough while the doctors stood by, quietly.  "How soon can you do the examination?  If you think it's an infection, why isn't she on antibiotics?"

"We can do the exam right away, and she has been on antibiotics since she's  been here.  They are put through her IV."  Dr. Jameson explains to Jon and Beth.  Beth is half asleep, she reaches out for Jon's hand.

"Ok, let's get this done.  She needs to start feeling better, it's been way too long.  She's not eaten for days."

The doctor's explain what was going to happen and excused themselves.  Jon rousted Beth enough to tell her what was going on and she just said, "Good."
ta
Sitting at her side, on the edge of her bed he looks at her and his heart aches for her.  He thinks out loud, "How much more can she take?"

Beth hears him and reaches over and puts her hand on his hand, "This is nothing.  I've been through worse and had you at my side, I'll be fine."

  1. Poor Beth she has been through so much lately I am amazed she can even think straight! Let's hope the doctors are able to figure out what's wrong with her and get Beth back on her feet again. Stay strong Jon.
