Water Ch. 218 - Please Come Home For Christmas

It's one o'clock in the morning and Beth is getting dressed.  She pulls on her jeans, puts one of Jon's hoodies on and walked into her closet to get her Uggs.

Pulling them on she remembers the last time she wore them.  Her and Jon took a trip into the city to do some shopping for Stephanie's birthday and Beth seen them in a window display.  They were mocha brown and could be worn three different ways.  She loved the color and the versatility.

She bought them and wore them right out of the store.  Jon laughed at her, thinking that was a little crazy but it was cold. Spring in New York City can be chilly and Beth thought it's a good idea.  She carried the Choo's that she had on in the Ugg bag and went about their day.  The memory of the trip made her smile as she grabbed on of his down filled jackets and went down stairs.  As she walked passed the front foyer, she stopped and grabbed the key fob and started the Denali that was in the driveway.  Into the kitchen she went, where she grabbed her purse and a bottle of water and out the door she went.

Pulling out of the driveway and heading up to 35, she turned the radio on to listen for the weather report.  She didn't like that snow that had fallen over the evening and she disliked driving on it even less.  She's not very good on the snow and the slush, she didn't see much of that in California.  The weather man says that it's supposed to be the blizzard of the year, and flights at all major airports are being delayed or cancelled.  "Damn it!" she says, as she fishtails off of Navesink River Road onto Route 35.  Gaining control, she continues to the Monmouth Executive Airport, slow and steady.  A few more close mishaps and she gets to the airport just fine, and just in time to catch security leaving for the night.  When she stops at the window of the guard house, she tells the girl, "I'm here to pick up someone that landed an hour ago.  Can I get to the terminal."

"Who are you picking up, ma'am?" With a clipboard in her hand, she looks to the list.

Beth sighs, "Jon Bon Jovi." and she waits for one of the two responses she gets whenever she says his name.  Much to her surprises, the girl could care less about who she was picking up.  But, she did know who he was.

"They all left about 15 minutes ago in a van." she tells Beth.  If the girl knew anything about Jon Bon Jovi, she would know that he wasn't in that van - he was rarely in a van with the guys.

"Can you let me in please, I know he's here; he called me about 10 minutes ago." Beth lightly pleads her case, she was too tired to argue with the girl.

"I'm leaving, I don't care.  Go ahead." and she presses the button so the gate would open.

Beth puts the car in drive and starts to go, but stopped and said, "Thank you.  Have a Merry Christmas."

"You too."  And Beth is on her way to the executive terminal to pick up the man that was left without a car.  The van was there for the band, but the car service wasn't there for Jon.  Someone had  dropped the ball, and Jon was pissed.  He's pissed that he pays for a service that wasn't provided and he was even more pissed that he had to wake Beth up to come get him.  When they talked last, he was going to wake her up The Honey I've Been Away Too Long Way.  Having to wake her up for a ride, really pissed him off.  After the holiday, someone will hear about it.

She parks by the door into the terminal, leaves the Denali running and she goes in to find Jon.  She found him at a table picking away at his phone, his brow quite wrinkled.  "Hey good looking.  You come here often?"  She asks him.

The sound of her voice had him on his feet and speed walking to her.  She loved the way he walked, he has such confidence that it shows in everything that he does - even his gait.  He gets to her and grabs her, picking her up off the floor.  His lips were drawn to hers and they kiss like it was the first time.  "I'll come here as often as I can if I get to see you!"  He kisses her again, and then sets her down.  "I'm sorry that I had to call you, babe.  Thanks for coming to get me."

"I couldn't leave you here this close to Christmas, that wouldn't be very festive." she laughs at him.  "Where are your things?"

"Over there." he motions with his head.  He turns to go get them, and she waits by the door.  With his bags in hand her reappears.  She opens the door for him so he can get out of the terminal and then she opens the hatch for him to put his things in.  Without even asking, he gets into the driver seat and she gets into the passenger seat.  Once they are buckled and on their way out of the airport, Jon looks at her, reaches over and grabs her hand.  Kissing it, he says, "I have missed you!"

"I missed you too.  I'm glad you were able to land tonight."

"This is pretty bad.  I haven't seen it like this in years."

"Flights are cancelled and delayed all over the place.  The coast is supposed to get a lot." she looks out the window and sees the beauty in it now, now that she isn't driving.  "What a way to be woken up."  she mocks him now, "Honey, can you come pick me up at the airport?"

Jon glances at her, and has to laugh.  He's sure to her, that's exactly what he sounded like.  "I'm sorry I couldn't just climb into bed with you and wake you the nice and loving way."

Beth smiles at him, "Yeah, me too.  But it is what it is." she reaches over and rubs his thigh.  "I'm just happy that you're home.  These three weeks were long ones without you in them."

"They were tough on my too, all I wanted was to come home and Christmas shop with you.  Shower with you, drink tea with you and just watch you sleep." he confesses what some of the things he missed about her.  "Are the kids home or with Dot?"

Beth looks at him, shocked by the question, "With Dot, why?"

"I thought she would have had some crisis and wouldn't be able to cope.  That's typical for her around the holiday." he shrugs his shoulder and says, "Well, we can sleep in in the morning then."

"They wont be home until after lunch, she said."

"That's fine.  I need time to wrap gifts.  Did boxes come while I was gone?"

"Yep, they all are in your studio like you asked."

"You didn't open any?" he winks at her and squeezes her hand.

Shaking her head no, "I forgot they were even in there.  One would come and I'd take it out there and then get so busy I forgot."

"That's good.  How was everything?" he asks her, knowing things were fine.  When they would talk at night, Beth would give him the run down on the day and what child had what activity and Jon loved that she was there, to be there with them for that.  Initially he wanted Beth to join him, but he's really happy that she chose to stay with the kids.  The family was growing as a unit and that was something that Jon had longed for, for many years.  Life with Dorothea was less than he desired, but the good Catholic boy thought he was doing the right thing by trying to tough it out and get through it.  Until he met Beth.

Watching the snow fall from the sky in the beam of the Denali head lights, Beth was in a mild trance.  "Did I tell you that I enrolled Romeo and Jacob into karate?"

"No.  That's nice.  Do they like it?" he looks at her and watches her stare at the flakes.  Her hair is tucked under a ball cap and he can see her profile.  Her perfect profile.  He can't stop his hand from reaching up and touching her nose.  "Are you with me?"

She turns her head and looks at him, "It's hypnotic, specially when you're tired, I guess.  What did you say?"

Jon is pulling into the garage, they made it back safe and they both just wanted to go to bed.  "Do the boys like the karate class?"

They get out of the car and Beth helps Jon bring in his on bag and the extras that he came home with.  Just two days before Christmas, she doesn't question it.  "So far they seem to love it.  They won't have a class until we get back, but Jake walks around and karate chops everything, so watch out."

In the foyer, Beth kicks off her Uggs and heads straight upstairs.  She knows that Jon won't be right behind her, he's going to have to make his rounds, check his voicemail and maybe his emails.  She puts his bag on the floor next to his dresser and peels her clothes off.  She missed him and all that she wants is to have him hold her through the night, but she couldn't wait up.  Back in just her tshirt and panties, she reclaims her side of the bed and settles in for the night.

  1. I wouldn't complain if Jon called me in the middle of the night from the airport. Forget about the emails Jon. Go upstairs and climb in bed with your girl.
