Water Ch. 226 - It Seems You Always Wait For Life To Happen

She can't shake what has been on her mind for the last couple of days.  She can't seem to figure out why Jon left the New Jersey house to go live in a Manhattan apartment.  In no scenario does it make sense to her.

She could easily find out, with one phone call - but she would be mortified if Jon found out that she asked.  She knows she needs to let it go and not let it take up anymore brain power, but it was Jon.

Sitting back in her office chair, she turns and looks out the window.  The sun is setting on this clear night and Beth knows that she needs to get home.  She has worked 18 hours a day for weeks and she is starting to feel it.  It was wearing her down and she thought a vacation would be a great idea.  Picking up the phone on her desk, she calls Dalton.  After four rings, he answers the phone, "Hello."

"What do you think about going on a vacation?" was the first thing she said to him.

Laughing, "I'm fine Beth, how are you?"

"Sorry.  I'm sitting here at the office and I'm exhausted."

"When and where did you want to go?" he asks her, hoping that it wasn't right away.  He was needed over seas for a merger and had to leave in two days.

"Oh, I don't  know.  Some place warm and sunny, with no clocks."

"When?"

"As soon as we can get it planned.  Tomorrow!" he can hear the excitement in her voice and really doesn't want to disappoint her, but he had to go Japan.

"Are you coming by here tonight?" he asks her, thinking it might be better to let her down in person.

She spins in her chair and rests her head on her hand, on the desk.  "I didn't plan on it, why?"

"I have to leave for Japan the day after tomorrow."

"You do?  Why?" she is bummed.

Dalton explains the merger to her and that he needs to be there for the paper signing, as well as take care of some other issues.  He explains it could take a few days and he's sorry that he let her down.  "Why don't you go where you want to go and I'll meet you there, when I'm done."  He's trying to be cooperative and understanding.

Beth is quiet for a minute and says, "OK, call me tomorrow.  I'm getting out of here and going home.  I have had enough of this day."

"I'll call you tomorrow.  Have a good night." he tells her.

"You too.  Bye." and she sets the receiver down.  She sits there for a minute deciding what she is going to do.  As she gathers her things to take home, she decides that she is going to Greece.  She jots a note for Tammy to make the travel arrangements for her and as she left, she put the note on her desk.

Tom, the night watchman at Deloitte walked Beth to her car, like most nights, and she went home.

Beth wakes up the next morning, much to her surprise rested and ready to face the day.  She's late and she doesn't care.  She was going on vacation.  Looking at the time, seeing that it was almost 8:00 she pours herself out of bed and grabs her cell phone off the dresser.  Many missed calls and several new emails, she still didn't care.

She was taking her time going in to the office, because she didn't plan on staying all day.  She knows that when she gets there, her flight and hotel will be all taken care of, all she will have to do is turn on her 'out of office' reply and finalize a few things - but in her mind and attitude, she's on vacation.

Once she is at the office, she takes a moment and calls Dalton.  He didn't answer his cell phone, so she left a voicemail.  Hey, it's me.  I just stopped into the office before I leave for Greece.  Call Tammy, she has my itinerary.  I'm going home and packing.  My flight leaves at 1:00.  Have a safe trip to Japan, I'll see you in Greece.

All set and ready to go, she boards the plane that is taking her to Greece.  Her iPod is on, headphone are on and she is in her zone.  It's a long flight, with a small layover in New York City.  She was ready, she could see the white sand and the clear blue water.  Lost in thought, 30,000 feet above the ground the one song that she couldn't bring herself to delete, the one song that took her breath away started to play.........
