Water Ch. 227 - Stuck At A Stop Light

Standing at the gate, waiting to hear how long she's delayed, Beth is getting angrier by the minute.  No one can give her or the other passengers a straight answer.

All that the airline could tell them was that they were having technical difficulties and they didn't have a time frame.  They advised the passengers to go grab a bite to eat and they would announce when they were boarding the plane.  This infuriated Beth, she was about half way to paradise and this has to happen?

With her carry on, she heads into the airport looking for a bar.  A nice glass of wine may make her feel a little better, might take the edge off.  Sitting at a high top alone, she can hear over her shoulder, "Yes, that is her.  Look.  Look."  says a voice she's not familiar with.  She turns her head and looks over her shoulder and sees two twenty something girls looking at her, and one took her picture.  Beth, not realizing where she is, doesn't let it bother her at first - but then it dawns on her, Shit, I'm in Jon's backyard.

Tucking her face, she reaches in her Coach bag and searches for some sunglasses.  She never gave thought that she might be recognized, in LA she blended with everyone and she never really went anywhere where there might be a Bon Jovi fan.  For almost a year she has gone unrecognized and wishes it was that way right now.

"Excuse me." says one of the girls to Beth.

Looking at the girls, Beth says, "Yes?"

The second girl asks, "Can we get a picture with you?"  Beth gives them a blank stare and tries to figure out why the ex girlfriend of Jon Bon Jovi was a desired subject for a picture.

"I guess."  Beth mumbles and one of the girls gets another patron to take the picture of the three of them.  Beth is in the middle and the girls are as close as they can get to her, without being on top of her.

"Thank you Miss Adams."  Says the first girl.

"Yes, thank you!"  Says the second girl, as they walk away.  As soon as they were out of ear shot, Beth could see that they were calling their friends.  She only hopes that they don't say she was impolite, because she was very accommodating.

Beth finishes her wine and heads back toward the gate.  The closer she gets to the gate, the less people that she sees.  She wonders where he co passengers where.  At the gate, she asks the attendant for an update on her flight to Athens and the attendant tells her, "Ma'am that flight has been postponed until tomorrow at 6am."

"Why?" she asks, with a hint of anger in her voice.  "Is there another flight?"

The attendant shakes her head no as she tells Beth, "We don't have one until tomorrow.  You are more than welcome to try another airline, at your expense."

"My flight is delayed because of technical difficulties, are you putting us all up in a hotel?"

"We are not.  I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you." she says to Beth, with empathy.

Beth slams her hand on the counter and says, "This is bullshit."  Walking away, she reaches into her bag and pulls out her cell phone.  She's pissed as she walks out to hail a cab.  "Back in this hell hole." she mumbles to herself.  She gets in the cab and tells the cab driver to take her to her apartment that's she's had in the city for years.  He does, the ride wasn't very long from JFK.

In the backseat of the cab, she calls Dalton and tells him of her misfortune.  "My damn plane was delayed and now they postponed the flight until tomorrow morning."

"What will you do now?" he ask, feeling bad for her, he knows how bad she wants to be in paradise with sand on her feet and the sun on her face.

"They have my luggage, so I'm just going to go to my place.  Maybe I'll order take out, it's dinner time here." she tells him, as she's thinking it.

Dalton, still in the middle of his work day can't talk long, "Beth, do you mind if I call you later?  I'm in the middle of a meeting."

"Oh my God, yes.  Why didn't you say something?  Call me when you have time." she feels like an ass.

"I will." he replies, and adds, "Hey, try to relax.  You'll be there tomorrow."

"I'll talk to you tomorrow." She ends the call, just as the cab pulls up in front of her building.  Handing the driver a 20, she exits the cab with just her purse and carry on.

Beth's afternoon started out fine in L.A., now her she is in New York City after almost a year and she feels the same way she did the last time she was there.  L.A. was home, has been for years and times like now, she's very glad that she didn't sell her apartment, in the city.

Just outside the door, digging to the bottom of her purse, she feels around for keys.  She can see out of the top of her eye that the doorman had opened the door for her, so she walks in focused on what she's doing.

"Good Afternoon." the doorman says to her, startling her a little bit so she looks back at him.

Still walking to the elevator, she says "Good Afternoon." and then she bumps into someone.  The impact caused her to drop her purse.  She looks up, angry that someone walked into her, not realizing that she is the one that walked without looking.  Her heart stops as she sees that she walked right into Jon.
