Water Ch. 237 - My Most Beautiful Regret

For the last two days, Beth has enjoyed her time away and her time alone.  Other than ordering room service, she has talked to no one. She didn't want to talk to anyone.

There were many people on the beach, but she didn't talk to any.  She laid in the sun and just enjoyed the peace and quiet.  Her tan was golden and her hair was sun bleached, she doesn't want her vacation to end.  Her room was on the water, so the farthest she would go was from her room to the beach and back.  She figured, after two days, she better head out and see what's going on in Mikinos.  She was there once before with Jon, and they didn't spend much time out of the room.  She wanted to go for a walk and take in some of the culture and the sights.

Walking down the brick roads, she's soaking up the sights and the smells and even feeling a little jealous of the young couples walking hand in hand.  There aren't many more places more romantic than Greece, it's breathtakingly beautiful.  The culture and the residents make it close to heaven on earth. She's got her bag with her, at the off chance that she'll buy anything - she was happy just being out and about with people.

A sign in the middle of the town square caught her eye, "ONE NIGHT ONLY - BON JOVI" She can't believe what she was seeing.  He's here?  Right now?  She doesn't know what to think.  Further reading the event poster, she takes note of the time and hurries away from the sign.  She didn't want anyone to see her looking at the poster, especially with the dumbfounded look on her face that she had.

As she walked back toward the hotel, she can't help but think about the show tonight.  Should I go?  I would love to see the guys.  Why didn't he tell me he was coming to Greece?  Can I still get a ticket?  Maybe I won't need one, Mike will remember me.  She's mentally arguing with herself about it.  She knows that she shouldn't go, but her heart really wants her too.

It's 8:pm and she can't think about eating.  She's too nervous, she's going to the Bon Jovi show.  She quit kidding herself,, she wants to see the guys; but the reality is she wants to see Jon.  She wants to see Jon so bad, it hurts her to think about it.  What will he do, what will he say?  Should I just hide in the back, watch the show and sneak out before he can see her?

Dressed in blue jeans and a linen top, Beth slips on her flip flops and heads to the Bon Jovi show.  She thought about grabbing a cab when she got to the street, but then decided she would walk and call Dalton on the way.  Dialing his number, she notices that she's nervous about calling him.  She knows that he has no idea that she had slept with Jon, so she's chalking the nerves up to guilt. His phone rings and rings and eventually goes to voicemail.  She figures he is either in the air or just getting to Japan and couldn't talk.  She leaves a message, "Hey, I'm heading out to get a bite to eat and see what's going on in town.  Call me when you can.  Hope you had a safe trip." and she hangs up the phone.  She drops her phone back into her pocket and continues the walk to the arena.

Arriving at the arena, there is a swarm of people by the front entrance.  She can see an overhead sign that says Tickets, so she started to walk that way.  In line, she can hear how excited everyone is for the show.  It had been years since Bon Jovi has been there, so Beth gathers that this is a big deal and she'll never get a ticket.  No worries - she knows people.

She decided the best and the quickest thing to do would be to walk around back.  She's certain that anyone working the crew would remember her, she only hopes that local staff won't stop her.  They don't.  She walk up to the load in doors and sees Mike Rew standing outside, talking on his phone.  He looks up at her and nods, being polite and then it hits him; that's Beth.  Getting off the phone he walks up to her and hugs her, "Oh my god, what are you doing here?"

She hugs him back, "I came to see the show."

"In Greece?"

She laughs, "I'm on vacation and seen a poster earlier today, thought I'd drop in."

"Welcome." he holds open the door and directs her in.  She steps in and waits for him, so she can follow.  "Let's go get you a pass.  Are you alone?"

"I am.  Are there seats left?  I'll buy a ticket."

"Nonsense.  Let's go find Matt." he says, with his back to her.  If he was looking at her, he would see that she looks like she has seen a ghost.  She has to see Matt??

"Mike, I don't want to see Matt.  I'll go out front and buy a ticket." she stops him by grabbing his arm.  Mike liked Beth, he liked her a lot.  They got along well and often played pranks on one another, he was so happy to see her but he understood why she said what she said.

"Wait right here.  I'll go get you a pass and then I'll help you to your seat." he tells her.  He doesn't want her to leave.

Beth nods and ducks into some shadows.  She can see familiar faces, but no one that would really recognize her.  No one that would tell Jon that she was there.

A few minutes later, Mike reappears and hands her a lanyard with an all access pass on it.  "There's plenty of room for you in the pit.  If anyone stops you, just show them the back of the pass.  You'll be good."

"Thanks Mike, you really didn't have to do this." she expresses her appreciation.

"When I seen you, it made sense as to why Jon was such an ass at sound check today.  It's nice to see you, Beth."

"Nice to see you too Mike.  Thanks again."

He takes her by the elbow and guides her through the labyrinth of cables, cords, cases and instruments and gets her into the pit.  She's seen the pit enough times to know where she should stand to not be in the way.  The pit is practically full and show time is getting closer.

The lights go down and the intro starts.........everyone but Beth rushes the stage and prepares for the show of a lifetime.  Beth hangs back and leans against the railing, watching with her heart in her throat.  Just two days ago she was intimate with the man that was going to come out an rock thousands and now she fears that he may see her.

She can see David, Richie, Tico, Hugh and Bobby take their places in the dark.  It's just a matter of moments before he comes out and she doesn't know if she can handle it.

He's on the stage, the spotlight is on him.  The band is backlit and Jon does what he always does - he uses his hands to block the lights and takes a look at the stands.  From left to right he's happy to see the place is packed.  Up to the microphone and he starts with Lost Highway.  At one point during the song the lights are just right.  He notices the blonde up front amongst the many Greeks' that are there, all with dark hair.  Beth stood out like a sore thumb.  He realizes it's her and smiles.  She smiles back, having no idea what to do.  When Lost Highway is over, he talks to the crowd.  Thanks everyone for coming, apologizing that they have been away so long and tells the guys, "I'm changing things up a bit."

The guys look at one another, having no idea what's going on.  The cues that they have rehearsed and the ones that they know are no longer relevant....they wait.

Jon starts singing, "It's hard for me to say the things I wanna say sometimes, there's no one here but you and me and that broken old street light...." and the band falls into place.  The crowd goes absolutely crazy and Beth puts her hands to her lips and listens with everything that she has.

Her tears fall to the point that she doesn't even care.  She's standing there alone and he's singing to her.  To her.  After a few minutes, the band is able to see what he's doing and Richie walks over and shares Jon's mic with him, pointing to Beth and giving her a thumbs up.

Beth laughs and waves to Richie.  When the fans noticed what Jon and Richie were distracted by, cameras were pointed in her direction and she could see the shift in attention change.  She wasn't liking it.  And apparently Mike didn't like it either.  He walked up to Beth and in her ear said, "Come on, I'll take you back."

  1. Beth needs to make up her damn mind! If she doesn't want to be with Jon anymore then in my opinion she shouldn't be allowed backstage or in the pit. She is no longer his girlfriend which means she loses all rights to being in the circle.

  2. I agree with you however, the crew is probably not sure if they are together or not. they also probably don't want to piss Jon off if he's already being in a bad mood.
She can't use her connections to see them though to her own advantage either.
If he can't continue a relationship with her why is he happy to see her? they are both going back & forth. It should be interesting when Dalton shows up!
