Water Ch. 12 - Hearts Breaking Even

(Circa 2005) Las Vegas was the city that never sleeps.  Beth finished up her game of Roulette, said goodbye to her Texas friends and went up to her suite to get ready for the Bon Jovi show, and to meet her new friend, Jon Bon Jovi.  She was thinking she was a little too old to be 'excited', so she convinced that she's intrigued by it all.
Showering in a shower that has 10 shower heads, and water as hot as she could stand it - she was in a little slice of heaven.  The shower helped her relax and it put her a little more at ease.  She kept telling herself, you're in no hurry Beth, you're in no hurry.

She runs a razor over her legs, makes sure everything else is clean shaven.  Rinses the conditioner out of her hair and she's done.  She grabs the thick plush vanilla scented towels off the rod, wraps her hair up in one and raps the other one around her body.  She heads towards the closet to pick out what she should wear.  "It's a concert, do I really need to get all that dressed up," she says out loud to herself.  She finds a summer dress that has bright colors and cool patterns and a small sweater to go over it.  She picks out the yellow flats that match the dress, along with a matching panty and bra set.  Yellow is her favorite color and she looks good in yellow.  She puts the bra and panties on and goes back into the bathroom to put her make up on and do her hair.  She doesn't like to wear make up and she doesn't need it, but she feels better when she has it on.  Not much - a little eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and colored lip gloss.  Bam, she's good to go.  She rubs a little bit of mouse through her hair, shakes her head and her hair is done.  Beth is very low maintenance and she loves it.  She doesn't need the fancy hair do and the full face make up.  She's a simple girl, with simple tastes that is easy to please.  Once last look in the mirror, saying to herself, "You're gorgeous!"  She slips her flats on, grabs a small clutch purse and her sweater and she is out the door.

Arriving at the concert a few minutes ahead of the schedule she had set in her mind, she went into the bathroom and made sure there was no lip gloss on her teeth, her hair still looked good and she looked like a woman that had her shit together.  Honestly, she was stalling.

You can do this, he's just a man.  He is gorgeous, but still - just a man.  Trying to convince herself.  She goes through the ropes that corall people to the entrance and hands a large man her pass.  He looks at it and says, "Ma'am, you need to come with me please." and he unclips the rope so Beth can pass, and he puts the rope back after she's through.

"Why do I need to come with you?", she asks the man a little confused.  She's thinking to herself, I may HAVE all access, but I didn't think I had to use it.

"I have been told that when you come through the line, I am to escort you backstage to Mr. Bon Jovi's dressing room.  Just following orders, ma'am." he says, like he has said it a million times before.  They arrive at a door that has a typed sign on it Jon Bon Jovi.  The large man knocks on the door and they hear someone yell, "It's open."  Upon entering the room, Beth is able to see that it was Jon that yelled.

Jon is in a chair getting his hair and make up done.  He sees it's Beth behind him coming in the door and he turns around.  "Hey, you made it! Thanks for coming.  Have a seat.  I'll only be a minute" he tells her kindly.  Beth sits on the couch that's in there and sets her clutch on the table.
"Can I get you anything to drink?, asks the large guy she later finds out to be Justin.  Beth shakes her head no, and says "Thanks anyway."

"Did you have any trouble getting back here?  We had to beef up security today, the craziees are out in full force tonight." he asks her with concern.

"Nope, no trouble at all, this big guy seen my pass and escorted me directly back here." she assures him that security did what they were supposed to.

"Good, I pay him alot of money." he laughs.

"Will that be all Jon?  Do you want me to hang out, outside the door here?" Justin is wanting out of the room, he has a job to do.  Jon dismisses him and he leaves, but he was given orders to stand outside the door.

Jon is finished with hair and make up.  He throws on long sleeve maroon colored shirt and and tan pants.  Dresses right in front of Beth.  She's a little embarrassed, but she can't look away.  And he doesn't want her too.

He's ready to hit the stage, but he goes and sits next to Beth  on the couch, waiting for the rest of his team to arrive.  Sitting next to her, he leans over and kisses her on the cheek and says, "Thank you for coming.  It means alot to me."  Beth is touched.  She is grateful for the invite and is appreciative of the treatment.  "Is your suite up to par, for ya?  I put you in one better than my own"  he lets out a cute little laugh.

"Yes, my suite is just fine, thank you.  The view is breathtaking!"

"I'm glad you like it.  I like having you here.  In a few minutes the rest of the band will be here.  Richie and David can get crazy and they have been known to cross a line or two.  Tico is quiet, but very polite.  They all are very polite." he tells her so that she is not caught of guard or surprised.
"That's great, I would love to meet the rest of the band."  Beth is now starting to feel like a teenage groupie, not a woman in her 30's.  Just go with it Beth, enjoy it.  Its a once in a lifetime opportunity, she tells her self.

Jon offers her a beverage, alcoholic or non alcoholic, something to eat.  Beth passes, she is too excited to eat and to excited to drink.  She is backstage with Jon Bon Jovi and he wants HER there.

Knock, knock. Jon goes to answer the door.  It's the guys.  They come in and Jon introduces all of them.  He says, "Guys this is the woman I have been talking about for the last few days."
"This is the one that had you so mind fucked you couldn't even pic our promo shots yesterday?"  Richie asks with that shit eating grin on his face.  Richie has always been great at being the one to break the ice.

"Yeah, she's the one I wondered about since L.A. The one I hoped will call and she did." Jon explains, to let Beth kind of know that she isn't just another conquest to him and that he doesn't see her as a groupie or anything less than she is.  She is an educated, successful and fun woman that looks like an angel.  Who would not want her around?

The door opens and in walks the tour manager.  "Five minutes to show time boys.  Let's get out there and give Vegas a show 10 times better than the last."  The group gets into their world famous huddle and does their thing.  There's even a little prayer thrown in there and they 'break'.  The band left before Jon did, Jon was left all alone in his dressing room with just Beth.  She asks, "Do you want me to leave?"

"No, I don't want you to leave. Where do you want to watch the show from, you do want to watch the show right?"

"I do want to, where would you like me?" She questions?

"You are free to watch backstage or your front row seat."

"I think Id like to watch it from front row. I hear that's a hard place to get."

"Not a problem, I can have Justin walk you out whenever you're ready"

"I don't want to be in your way, you need to get out their. Your masses are waiting. He walks up to her and puts his hands on each arm, "Will you be here at the end of the show? I have something special planned for us."

She's geeked, "Yes, I'll be here."

Jon has Justin take Beth to her seat and his security detail is right there, infront of her and in front of Jon.

Jon comes out and Bon Jovi gives one of the best shows that they've done in a long time. Was it Beth?

Beth is having the time of her life, but she can't fight the nagging feeling that she is here, losing her heart to a married man. That's not Beth. Raised catholic and knowing its wrong. She needs to talk to Jon and as soon as possible!
