Water Ch. 29 - Hey God. 2011

(2011)

I have done nothing wrong here, why is this happening to me now?  I have paid for my sins, and I paid dearly.  So, why now?  Was my daughter NOT enough penance for my sins?  Beth is sitting on her bed with the items she had packed in a box and she asks God out loud,  Why are you letting this happen now?  I was almost over him, I was finally ready to move on.  Why?  The longer she sits there, the more pissed off she gets.  She can't get passed the part where Jon sends her her dead daughter's blanket, the one she thought she lost.  However grateful she is to have the blanket back, she's pissed that he took it and she's pissed that he gave it back under he circumstances that he did.  Was this a case of Jon Bon Jovi not getting what he wants and then passive aggressively getting even with her?

She looks at the clock and it's 12:30, in the middle of the night.  She is so angry, she is considering getting into her car and driving down the shore to Red Bank.  She is trying to find one good reason NOT to, and she can't come up with one.  She goes into her walk in closet and grabs some yoga pants and a hoodie, slips on some sketchers, grabs her purse and she is out the door.  She left all of Mc Kenna's stuff on her bed.

She heads downstairs, unfamiliar with the night door man, she goes and gets her own car.  On the drive to Red Bank, she calls Amanda.  Amanda had just put the baby to bed, she had a few minutes to talk.  Beth needed that.  When Beth told Amanda what Jon has been up to, Amanda is a little shocked.  So not Jon.  Beth caught Amanda up to speed, telling her the events of the last few days like: she's had sex with Jon, went to the Hampton's to meet with Dorothea and had lunch with Romeo.  Pretty emotional few days.  What angered Amanda the most was the box he sent Beth yesterday and the blanket he sent her tonight.  Amanda wishes she had known all of this was going on, she would have reached out to her friend.  Amanda did see them in the news, but paid no attention to it.  Beth is strong, Beth can handle this - she thought.  But Amanda had not known all of the other stuff.

The drive was quick, it was the middle of the night.  The time passed quickly as Beth was distracted by talking to Amanda, it helped her in many ways.  Amanda always looked at things differently than Beth did.  Amanda used emotion and Beth used intellect.  Not saying Amanda was unintelligent, just that Beth used the analytical part of her brain and Amanda used her emotions.  That is why they have been friends for 100 years.  Polar opposites that accentuate one another.  Amanda was Beth's rock.

Pulling into the Red Bank house, Beth could see lights on in the back of the house.  She can't imagine anyone is in the front of the house, that's the business side of things.  She parked her car next to Jon's and walked up to the front door.  She almost rang the doorbell when she got the bright idea to see if Jon or Dot had changed the security code.  She lifted the cover and punched in 19833891..  She got the green light.  Score.  She opened the door and walked in.  She knows Dot isn't going to be there and so what if she was?  Jon had not given Beth's feelings a thought or cared what she wanted the last couple of days, why should she behave like the adult, always.  If he's pissed that I'm here, he'll get over it.  If not, oh well.  She needs to draw the line alot darker and he needs to know, she is not coming back to this.  She is not, will not and he can't make her.  She is making a stand that he no longer holds her heart in his half clenched hand.  She is making this goodbye final.  If she has to move to LA she will.  Armed with attitude and very little sleep, Beth makes her way through the house.

She was familiar with the house enough to know that the lights that are on, are always on at night.  Nightlights, if you will.  She didn't see anyone in the great room, the living room or the game room.

Hmmm, he must be in his office.  She walked down the Hall of Bongiovi, glancing at a picture of Dot thinking to herself - you can have him.

She steps into the office and sees Jon sitting there, crying.  A cry she has only seen him do once before.  When they lost their daughter.  He has tears rolling down his face and he grabs a tissue. He can't see her, because of the way he is sitting in the chair, so she stands there for a moment.  She can tell that he has a book in his hand, but she can't make out what it is until she hears him read:

Baby Girl Bongiovi, today is Christmas and for a little girl that isn't here yet, you sure have alot of gifts from Santa Claus and your daddy.  Where are we going to put all of this stuff?  Today daddy and I are going to grandma and grandpa's for a nice Italian Christmas dinner.  Your brothers and sister will be there too.  It's going to be great.    After dinner we are going to midnight mass and then home to sleep all day. I'm so tired.  For being a little peanut, you sure wear your mommy out. Daddy and I have been trying to come up with a name for you. I like Olivia and your daddy likes McKenzie. Olivia Bongiovi, McKenzie Bongiovi. We have a big decision to make. We just want you here! Mommy wants to hold you and kiss your chubby cheeks. Your daddy can't wait to take you and show you off to everyone. You are not your daddy's first daughter or his first child, but if I had to guess, baby, you are going to be his favorite! He tells me what you're going to look like. He knows you are going to have blonde hair like me and blue eyes like daddy and I have. I keep telling him that I don't care if your hair is purple and your eyes are orange, as long as your healthy!!   Merry Christmas Baby Girl Bongiovi.  I love you.
