Water Ch. 10 - Without Love

(Circa 2011)Having his patience tried with Dot and the kids not wanting Jon to sell the house, he quietly decided that he may keep it, he didn't realize how much the kids did in fact love it, since they are only there on occasion.  Maybe it's for the best anyway.  She can have it in the divorce settlement.

Dorothea has been out at the house quite a bit lately - Jon has actually thought she might be having an affair, either with a local or a hired hand.  He didn't care, he was no longer interested in what she did, when she was away from the kids.  He doesn't want to know.  It's not because he's jealous or wants her for himself, it's simply just that he doesn't care.  Whatever she's doing, she needs to keep it away from the kids - they go through enough being the children of a mega rockstar.

Beth was different. The kids have known her for years and they absolutely loved her. There was a time in Jon and Beth's previous relationship that Beth and Dot got along. They had actually shopped together, on more than one occasion. Of course all of that was before Dorothea found out Beth was sleeping with her husband and keeping him company on the road.

Jon heads outside to find Beth.  He's ready to leave and go back to Jersey.  He had asked the boys if they wanted to go back and they declined.  Each of them had something on their agenda for the upcoming weekend and they didn't want to miss it.  Jon assured them that he would have them back in time for whatever they had planned.  But they still declined.  It wasn't because of Beth, they all loved Beth.

He finds Beth sitting in the sand on the beach, and the sight of her sitting there with the sunset was the most spectacular thing he has seen.  He walks up to her and sits down.  "Hey, it's getting chilly out here.  We should have brought jackets."  She says as she rests her head on his shoulder.  He puts his arm around her and squeezes her tight.

"Well, I better tell you before anyone else has the chance.  I handed Dorothea divorce papers when you walked away."  and he holds his breath.  Not sure how she's going to react.

"You did what?  With me here?  Tell me you're kidding?  Jon, please tell me you're joking!" freaking out because he did that with her there and didn't forewarn her with he was going to do that.  She gets to her feet.  "How well did that go over?

"Calm down babe, it was long overdue.  I have had them for a few weeks now and I just haven't had the time to give them to her.  I didn't want to drag Peter into it until I had too, so I gave her a settlement offer to look at and think over.  No harm." he says with a the tone that he uses while he talks business.

"She's going to think it's because of me.  She's going to think that I made you do it, Jon - this isn't good.  Why tonight?  The boys were happy to see me and now they're going to be mad at me.  They might think I'm behind it."  She's now pacing back and forth.  "This is bad, this is really bad."  She stops and looks at him.

He stands up, grabs her hand and leads he toward the house.  "We need to get sweaters or something, it's chilly.  I didn't think it was going to get this cold.  That wind cuts through ya."  He gets behind her and throws his arms around her and they walk back to the house like that.  Beth doesn't want to hide anything, but given the current condition that he left Dot in, she didn't want to rub it in her face.  So she breaks from Jon's embrace and they go in the house.  Jon grabs a jacket for himself and a New England Patriots hoodie for her.  She loved wearing his clothes.  She misses wearing his clothes.

"Okay kids, dad's leaving."  He walks over and gives each boy a hug.  Romeo hadn't come back yet, so he would walk next door and tell his baby goodbye.   Looking at Dot, reading the papers she had just been given; "Are you okay?"

She looks up at him and simply says, "Yep.  I'm golden.  Have a safe trip back to the city.  It was nice seeing you Beth."  never making eye contact with Beth.  Beth felt terrible.

"Goodbye Dorothea."  Beth replies and walks outside.  A few moments later Jon appears and says he needs to go tell Romeo goodbye.  So they walk next door to the neighbors and Jon says goodbye to Romeo. 'Bye daddy, I love you!!'  Jon hugs his son and kissed him on the head and says, "I love you too, little man.  I'll call  you tomorrow, okay?"  Romeo just wants to go play, he pulls away and says, "Okay dad.  Bye."  And he was gone back into the neighbors house.

Jon and Beth walked hand in hand back to the chopper.  Chris was waiting because Jon told him to.  Jon knew this trip wasn't going to be very long.  No need to file a new flight plan.  Beth stood back while Jon walked up and found out if it was okay to board.  He got the all clear and waved Beth up.  They boarded the chopper and away they went.  Heading back to Red Bank.

  1. Why is Jon acting like it is no big deal for Beth to be around the kids and Dorothea? Granted he gave Dorothea divorce papers but why do that with Beth around? If I were Beth I would have a nice long talk with Jon when they get back to Red Bank.
