Water Ch. 15 - In These Arms

(2005)  Walking side by side, with Justin in front of them for security, Jon and Beth walk down a long hall way that leads to an elevator.  They get into the elevator and take it up to the service entrance in the back of the hotel.  As soon as they walk out the door, flashes start and so does the yelling.

"Jon, over here!"

"Who is that with you Jon, who's the girl?"

"Jon, Jon!" With about 20 girls at the back door trying to get to Jon.

Jon puts his hand on Beth's head to have her look down so no one can see her face.  They hurry and get in the car.  The driver is ready, puts the car in gear and slowly eases his way through the crowd.

"Try not to look at them." Jon tells Beth.  "I don't want this in the papers, this will go worldwide in a matter of minutes."

Until this moment, it never really hit Beth that Jon was married.  She knows he's married and in her mind, all of this is innocent.  For all she knew, he was 'courting' her as a financial advisor and was just being nice.

"I'm  really sorry about the paparazzi and the fans.  I wanted you to look down so no one could see your face, I don't know how you feel about all of this and just because I asked you here, doesn't mean you're prepared for or wanting all this press." he tells her with genuine concern.  He reaches over and pats her leg, "Are you ready for what the night has in store for you?'  Smiling.

"I am ready for whatever you want to throw at me.  Even the press.  I'm a big girl and I am not a stranger to the press.  I've had my share of bad press, Jon." referring to the shady deals that had taken place at her firm a couple of years prior.

Her firm was into hedge funds and wrong doing with finances, Beth herself wasn't involved - but the press would grab her when she would leave work. They would twist her words to make a story, so she was well aware of what the press could do with them just sneaking out the backdoor of the MGM Grand.  But, she didn't care.

"So, where are we going?  What are we going to do?"  she's fishing for details.  She really has no idea where they are going.

Jon scoots over by the fridge that's in the back of the limo and pulls out a bottle of wine.  Pops the cork and pours them both a glass.  Raising his glass, he says "A toast, to new friendships and new adventures."  They toast and each enjoy their drink while they are off to Destination: unknown.

It is Sin City, the city that never sleeps - but what on earth can we be doing at 1:00 in the morning?  she thinks to her self.

It's dark out and it seems to get darker the farther away from the city they go.  Not being to familiar with the area around Vegas, Beth couldn't even fathom a guess as to where they might be going.  She did notice though that the driver was taking every precaution to guarantee that they weren't being followed.

Ring, ring.....ring, ring - Jon's cell phone rings.  He takes it out of his pocket and the caller ID reads, The Wife.

"Hello." he had to answer it, he wasn't trying to hide anything.  "Yep, it was good.  We just left the arena and are headed out to the desert."

There was a pause, as Dorothea was talking.  Jon replies, "Yes, she is a financial adviser at Deloitte.  Why?"  Again, a long pause and he says, "Okay, I'll call you tomorrow.  Why are you up this late, it's 3am in New York."    Another long pause and he finally says, "Good night, I love  you too."  And he presses the end button.

"Sorry about that.  Her calling at this hour was odd, so I had to take it." almost trying to convince himself that's why he answered the phone.

"That's okay, I understand." Beth assures him that she in no way shape or form did that bother her.  She did wonder how Dot knew about her.  "I take it I was mentioned?"

"Yeah, the show made the local news and you know how things go once the news has their hands in it.  She heard I was with a gorgeous blonde, alone in the back of a black car."

Beth laughs and says, "Well, you are."  They chatted awhile and drank their wine.

Beth could tell that the car was slowing down, so she sat up in her seat a little bit to see if he could tell where they were or what they were doing, and from that distance, all she could see was the flicker of lights.

"What did you do, Jon?  she asks, with a big smile on her face.  "You did this for me?"  she is baffled.  No one has ever gone through the trouble like he has paid someone to do.

"I did it for us."   The car stops and they both step out.  Jon says, "I have done some research, some home work on you, and I heard you like picnics."  He puts his arm around her and they walk to the table.  He pulls out her chair and she sits down.

Looking around she is amazed at how beautiful of a spot he had picked, the candles were gorgeous and the table was perfect.  She is almost in heaven.

  1. Wow, Jon did a picnic in the desert. That is soo romantic.
Still trying to figure out why Jon is acting like it is no big deal with him being married. I know I need to be patient but I can't help it.
    More please!
