Water Ch. 6 - Price of Love

(Circa 2011)Beth can't take it anymore. She gets out of bed, forgetting what she was wearing. She needs to pace, she needed to be more than 2 feet away from him. She walks over to the window and looks out over the water, and she thinks to herself, why is this happening to me!?

She turns around and faces Jon, her tall slender body silhouetting with the moonlight behind her. She says to him, "I'm sorry that you seen me walking down the street, I'm sorry that you have stopped here twice - what did you think was going to come out of all of this!? What do you want from me Jon?"

Jon had his heart sink. Why was she talking to him like that? What has happened in these last 2 years. He has to know, so he asks, "Beth, is there someone else?" Praying the answer is no. Beth pauses, looks at him and laughs. She says to him, with conviction, "Do you really think I could let anyone in, after you? You really have no idea what you meant to me. How much I loved you. Jon, you were my soul mate. How could I let anyone in?" She can't believe she is saying those words. She can't believe she is letting him see the vulnerable side that he fell so head over heels in live with?

He's sitting there looking at her, thinking 'My god, she is so beautiful.' He can't take it anymore and gets up to walk over to her. She puts her guard up and crosses her arms, so he can't see her firm breasts through her lace nighty. He stops at her and puts a hand on each arm. "Beth, I never meant to hurt you. I would have rather died than put you through what I did - but if you can tell me that you don't love me anymore, than do it - and I'll walk out the door and leave you alone. You will never hear from me again." He starts rubbing her arms in an attempt to relax her a little bit. "It is the last thing I want to do, but if it will help you and if there is no hope for you and me; then I will do it. My God, I can't imagine another minute of life without you in it." Running his fingers through his hair in frustration, he pauses and starts to say, "What do you want me to do?"

Beth was so confused, so mad, so happy and actually quite sad.  A mix of emotions and the only way to make any of them stop was for him to leave.  She turns and walks out onto the patio.  The breeze off the river blows her hair just enough that it gets in her face.  She reaches up and pushes her hair back and keeps her hand on her head .  Jon walked out on to the patio to be with her.  She stood there and just stared.  Unsure of what to do and even more unsure of what to say.  "Beth, do you want me to go?"  He asks, with a heavy heart and raw nerves.

"How was your show tonight, Jon?  Were all the girls happy to see you?" She asks with a hint of sarcasm in her voice, walking passed him to get her robe.  She puts the robe on and digs in her bag and pulls out her stash of cigarettes.  She has always kept a pack on hand, just in case.  After quitting smoking almost a year and a half ago.  And this was one of those 'just in case' situations.  She locates her lighter and goes back onto the patio.  Opening the pack while she walk.  Once outside she puts one in her mouth and lights it.  Jon looks a little suprised.   He hated the fact that she started smoking after the miascarriage, but he didn't push the issue after what she had gone through.

"Can I have one of those, please?" he would love nothing more than a cigarette and a glass of wine.  "Do you mind if I crack open the mini bar?"

"No, not at all.  I could use a glass of wine, if you don't mind." Beth answers while handing Jon her cigarettes and lighter. Jon gets up and goes back into the room to get some wine out of the mini bar. The mini bar is stocked with Coke products, juices, liquids and wine. All those small little airplane bottles. He grabbed two bottles of Pinot and walked back out on the patio. Handing Beth a bottle, he tells her "Don't drink it all at once, there are only two more and they're $9.00 a piece." He chuckles. Beth cracks hers open and takes a drink. She didn't think it would be necessary to pour it in a glass, she didn't plan on letting it sit around. She emptied the bottle and set it on the patio table. She stood there hoping the wine would have some affect, soon. Jon sits in the chaise lounge and lights his cigarette. He asked Beth, "Did you want another bottle, babe?" Beth shakes her head no and says, "Thanks though, not right now anyway." He wants her to relax, he wants her to be comfortable and with her back to him he wants to know, "Is there anything else I can get you?" Again, she just shakes her head no.

Just down the river to her right was the Navesink River house that he shared with his wife and children. A beautiful home in a afluential neighborhood. Neighbors to the left and neighbors to the right and neither cared that Jon Bon Jovi lived there. Beth has been in the house, Beth has made love with Jon in that house. Beth is convinced that she conceived in that house.

She's tired from being woke up from a sound sleep and the cat nap she had the night before isn't helping. She's getting cranky and the cigarette is making her light headed and nauseous. She stomps it out on the stone wall and puts the butt in the empty wine bottle. Discarding it into the garbage can that's on the patio, she walks over to Jon and takes his bottle of Pinot and drinks that too. Disposing of that bottle, too. She's tired, she wants to sleep, she wants to stop talking, she wants to stop thinking.

After taking a deep breath she says, "What do I have to do to get to bed Jon? I am so tired and mentally drained. I just want to go to bed. What's it going to take?" He looks up at her and says with the world famous Jon Bon Jovi smile and says, "Take my boots off." Beth looks at him with shock as lets out a giggle. Confirming what he said, she asks,"If I take your boots off of your feet, you'll let me go to bed?" Moving to get up and close to her, he says "Yep, thats all its going to take. My boots off and you get to go to bed.". He grabs her and wraps his arms around her. He squeezes her with such love and adoration, never wanting to let her go. Beth doesn't fight it, she doesn't try to pull away - she does quite the opposite, she melts into him. Smelling him. Oh God, that smell.

While still enveloped in his arms, Jon gently leads Beth back into the room and over to the bed. The covers were already pulled back from Beth getting out of bed, so all he had to do was pick her up and lay her down. And that's exactly what he did. As if he were saving her, rescuing her from something- in one swoop, he picks her up and lays her on the bed. Reaches down and pulls the covers up to her breasts and says, "I'll take my boots off, don't you worry." Laughing, with the same smile on his face.

Jon goes over and closes the patio door and draws the shade. Walks back to the opposite side of the bed and sits down. He takes off his cowboy boots and lays back, next to Beth. She turns on her left side so she's facing him and he turns to face her. They are 12 inches apart, if that and Beth says, having no idea where it came from, "How come you're not under the covers with me?" Smiling, teasing. His response doesn't surprise her, being his lover for the past several years, she knows what he's going to say.

"I didn't shower after the show, I grabbed my bag and drive straight here. I won't ......" She stops him and says, "I know you have to shower. I have my bathroom kit over there on the dresser. None of it is too fragrant, except the body wash. Go shower." He takes his left hand and gently touches her face, she loves it.

"Do you feel like joining me?" He knows she'll say no. He's known her long enough to know when she has had enough of the day. He knows she is down for the count and she will be sound asleep before he even gets into the shower.

She grabs the hand that's been caressing her face and kisses it. "No, I'll be right here when you get out." She loves the thought that this man is going to shower and climb into bed with her. She knows its wrong and she will pay for it later, she just can't fight it anymore today.

Jon grabs Beth bathroom kit from dresser and goes into the bathroom, turning off the lights in the room on the way. Turning the water on to let it warm up, he looks at himself in the mirror and sees the look on his face that he lost, when he lost Beth. He tells himself, "You need to get it right this time. No more bullshit. She deserves the world and you have her shit"

Finishing his shower, in record time, he wraps his body with the towel and peeks out on Beth. She is sound asleep. He knew that was going to happen. He gets into a debate with himself on whether to use HER razor to shave his FACE. That could be trouble, but when he climbs into bed next to the women that had him heart, body and soul - he wanted to have a smooth face when he scoops her up and holds her to him all night long. He takes a leap of faith and quickly uses her razor and toothbrush. He grabbed some shorts and deodorant out of his bag and put both on. He came back tonight knowing, believing he was going to stay with her. He needed to.

He makes sure the doors are locked and the blinds drawn. Shuts off all the lights and climbs into bed with her. He eases him self up right next to her and spoons her tight. He's right where he belongs. He's right where he wants to be. She stirs a little bit, but it's only until she realizes its him.

"Hey" she mumbles.

"Shhh, go back to sleep." Kissing her head and every other part of her body he can reach with just bending his neck. He really doesn't want to disturb her, he wants her to sleep. He rubs her arm, hip and thigh, over her silk nighty, softly so she isn't woken up. He thinks to himself, "I'll do this all night, if she'll let me." He relaxes and just lets them be one. He's happy, he's smiling - he's home?

"I love you, Jonny." She proclaims with a whisper.

"I love you too babe. Get some sleep. I'll be right here when you wake up." He assures her with his words and his kisses.

She rolls over to face him. She kisses him on the nose and then the corner of his eye. He lays there and let's her, soaking it all up. She begins to kiss his face and notices he's clean shaven. "Mmm, nice and smooth. I like it." He laughs and says, "Yeah, about that." Smiling at her, in the glow of the moonlight that is creeping in from the blind gaps. She knew right away what he was talking about and right now she didn't care. She had everything she wanted, right there.

"You're not mad?", he asks. She kisses him again and bites his chin, a nibble. Her only response was, "You talk to much."

  1. Again, Wow! So Beth had a miscarriage. Well that explains part of her pain. Can't wait to see what happens next with these two.
