Water Ch. 36 - I Don't Like Mondays 2011

2011

Feeling like he had said all he could say, the song was done.  Now he just needed to go out into the studio and write the music.  Lately, he thought that the lyrics were the easy part - but now he wonders if he can come up with music good enough for these lyrics.  He's questioning himself, and he never does that anymore.  Realizing that it's late and he does need to rest, he heads up to bed and passes out from mental exhaustion.  He has had enough of this day, and can only hope tomorrow is better.

Meanwhile, back in New York, Beth finds herself having trouble sleeping.  The memories are flooding back and she doesn't know what to do.  She lays there with her daughter's blanket, and her journal and reads entry after entry - reliving it just like it was yesterday.  Some entries she reads over and over again.

Like the one dated July 30, 2008:  Today is the day we heard your heartbeat for the first time.  Your little heart is beating at about 130 beats per minute.  That's a strong little heart.  And we were told that you are due on or around March 14th.  Your daddy sat there and cried.  He said that you would be the best birthday present he has ever received.  Seeing your heartbeat and seeing your little body was a little overwhelming for daddy.  He kept hugging me and kissing me, like I did this on my own.  He is so happy and so thrilled - you will be his baby.  We don't know what you are yet, we have to wait a few more weeks, to find that out.  Regardless if you're a boy or a girl, we will love you to death and you will be so spoiled.  Love, Mommy.

She re-read that over and over.  She started to cry thinking of the way she felt on that very day.  She was overwhelmed too and her feelings and actions are exact as Jon's.

It's getting later and later and she can't shut her brain off.  She needed to do something, she needed to get her mind off of McKenna and her dad.  She is emotionally spent and has to work tomorrow.  If she doesn't get sleep soon, she was going to drag ass tomorrow.  She got up and put McKenna's things back in the box and put the box back in the closet.  With tears rolling down her face, as she closes the closet door, she says, "I love you baby girl."

With her iPhone in hand and running shoes on her feet, she is off to burn some energy.  She heads down to her buildings in house gym and runs 5 miles on the treadmill.  She loved running, she loved it when her and Jon would run together.  That seems like a lifetime ago.  When she was finished with her run, she did a 3 mile walk to cool down.  When she was finished, she went back up to her place, took a shower and laid down.  The last thing she remembers is turning her bedside light out.

Morning arrived on the East Coast far too early for both of them.  Neither had gotten enough sleep.

Jon had the pleasure of waking Romeo up and getting him ready for day school.  It's not actual 'school', it's an education daycare establishment for the privileged.    It's design is to keep the children at the education level they left the school year at, trying to avoid refreshing in the fall when school was back in session.

"Hey bud, it's time to get up." Jon says into Romeo's ear.  Romeo slept with his dad, well let's just say that Jon slept where Romeo left him room.  He's only 7, but he sure is a bed hog.  Romeo rolls over and looks at his dad and smiles.

"Good Morning" he says to his baby.  "How did you sleep?"

Rubbing his eyes, he says to his dad, "Good."

"What sounds good for breakfast?" hoping he doesn't have to cook.  He's not in the mood to cook, but he's capable.

"Lucky Charms.  I want Lucky Charms." Romeo says to his dad with a smile.  Jon reaches up and messes with Romeo's hair and says, "Okay, I'll meet you downstairs.  Get a move on, we gotta get you to day school."

Jon heads downstairs and he can hear Romeo right behind him.  Jon gets him his breakfast and he sits at the table with his son and reads the paper, sipping a hot cup of tea.

Romeo pokes at the paper and says, "Dad, why is your picture in the paper?"  Jon flips it over and there he is.  On a patio with no shirt on and with a women half covered in a bathrobe.  His heart drops.  What do you say to a seven year old when he asks that kind of question?  He believes honesty is the best policy, but Romeo wouldn't understand that.

Jon just diverts his attention to the marshmallows in his Lucky Charms and Romeo forgets all about the picture in the paper.  Jon quickly scans the column and sees that they in fact know who she is, mentions their passed history and speculates as to what might happen in the Bongiovi compound.

Fuck, he thinks to himself.

Just a short distance up the road, in another state all together, Beth finds herself  'out of sorts' at work.  She walked in this morning to 3 copies of the newspaper on her desk.  With the picture of her in a half opened bathrobe, on a patio with a half naked Jon Bon Jovi.  She was so embarrassed!  She decided she would work with her door closed today.  Being a boss, she could do that.  The ones that left the papers on her desk, would never admit to it.  It was no secret that she was involved with Jon in the past, she never hid that from anyone - there really is no point to hide it.  It was public knowledge.  She would answer questions, if they weren't of a personal nature.

However, now she was feeling like he was 'back in her life' because he was everywhere she went.  Her morning went by quicly and she was thankful for her lunch break.  She grabbed a peach yogurt and went up on the buildings roof to sat in the park.  He company used the roof of their building to build a park, there are potted plants, real grass, benches and umbrella's up there.  Beth loved going up there and just taking a break, a minute to herself.  She found herself a spot on a bench that was close to the planted grass.  She kicked off her shoes and just ran her feet over the blades of grass.  To some it might be silly, but she loved doing it.  She found it very soothing.  She went up on the roof one day with Jon and they did the same thing.  He looked at her a little odd, but once he did it - he understood.

When will everything not remind me of him?  She asks herself, knowing there is no answer.

  1. Instead of ignoring what is going on between them Jon and Beth need to sit down and have a nice long talk.
